In the 70s bands controlled their creative content and actually played instruments. Too much now is corporate driven and electronically created. Some like Gaga and Sheeran dont even travel with bands. Its all recorded backing. I haven't heard a decent guitar, or even any guitar solo, in a hit song for decades. Every year it all just gets more plastic and phoney.

That's why I go to blues clubs

'72 was about the year that the material in the lyrics ended war protest songs that got picked up by stoned people but went above the heads of the drunks. (same that you see on the TV everyday, I haven't counted but evening tv in a week is a lot of drinks being poured, a lot of it while 'on the job'.

I wonder if any churches got smarter generations once the led in the stained glass windows was taken down. May explain why the older preachers went all fire and brimstone towards the end. (let alone the window makers, keep licking those fingers and more ghosts will show up at the party)

What a decade!...

The music was positive. The movies were uplifting. Hell, even the porn was sweet. I get a bit wistful for that era.

Today's social media is so sanctimonious, finger-pointy, with all of its revisionist guilt. It's almost becoming fashionable to portray oneself as a victim of some alleged transgression. Where have all of the true stand-up men and women gone these days?

Tell me, am I just an aging old windbag or is there actually some merit to what i am saying?

The mullet was king! (and queen).

I miss the 60s:

You miss the sixties because the decade was erased from your frontal lobes.

The 80s? Let's see. Disco music. Well not really music but noise.Probably what made country music popular. 21% mortgages. WOrst economic time since 1934. ANti pollution equipment on cars that cut economy from 20+ MPG to 10MPG.At the same time gas prices doubled. FUn times.

I lived it.
The music was shit. Culture Club, Micheal Jackson begining to go white, Duran Duran, Wham, Cindy Lauper.
Don't remember the movies, but 70's porn was better.

Yes, you are an aging old windbag, but don't let that stop you. :)
I think about my wonderful Dad...

He smoked in the station wagon while I was rolling around in the back with the groceries...no seat belt. I think through today's lens, he'd be deemed a monster. 'Context' has fallen to the wayside in this age of revisionist guilt.

Been there, 1974 Torino. Camping in Algonquin Park. Good times.

I saw Van Halen in 1984 at the Montreal Forum...the Jump Tour. I had just turned 18 and could legally drink at that concert. I think this song pretty much sums up the 80's, and what I've been prattling on about in my previous posts.

Deep Purple in Toronto, my ears have never forgiven me for that one.

The good ones have been browbeaten into into silence and others are being overshadowed by loud Lefties.
All we have left now are a bunch of Lefty Wusses!
But cheer up, I'm still here to stand up for the strong and free!!

Yeah, no internet, no SJW nonsense, no mass 3rd world immigration.
Quite the difference.
We've done well, our country since then.

Not.

Maybe Gretzky + Messier + Bourque and finally Coffey best time in hockey life.

*barf*
Habs in the 70's, Lafeur, Dryden, Shutt, Savard, Lemaire, Gainey, Robinson. etc. etc.
Never a better crew anywhere / anytime.

What a time to graduate high school, all full of hope and expectations of a great life.....

Not.

The Winnipeg Jets of 75-78 were the best club team of the 70's and would have beaten the Habs if the Habs had the balls to play them. They didn't of course.
