The one thing about cable that IS better is that you can split the cble and run multiple tvs and with satellite, you have to have a receiver for all tvs unless you run the same channel on each tv
Not anymore. Not with digital.

We did that long ago. Better service and it's a little cheaper. :)

some people can't have satalite because they are facing the wrong way especially in highrise buildings so they are stuck with cable.

Ten dollars is not the end of the world

Nope but it's too much for greedy cable companies.
Too bad about those that can't get satellite.

I don't watch TV. I hear it from time to time but never watch. When our girl heads to school next fall the TV service gets axed.
I like some shows. I think we might watch tv about 5 hours a week of regular tv, and a movie once in a while. Losing a batch of channels is not a big loss.

So it's costing you about $3 an hr and will increase to $3.50 with this $10 fascist grab?

May as well download what you like if you cable co isn't your i-net provider as a package.

We have Shaw as net provider but left their tv in the dust before they developed the package thing. If we dropped a package, we'd save about $12 to 15 a month.

We have digital TV over the phone line along with internet and home security. Save shiitloads and one bill is nice.

We are rural. Only thing that comes here over the phone line is phone service. And when the MIL heads for the happy hunting grounds, the landline gets turfed. Skype and cells will be the order of the day.

It won't be long before you get TV, phone and internet over your hydro lines.

As long as one has internet service and the simple know how you can download most shows the same day, the news is right there anyways. Which makes cable for the most part useless plus then you do not have to watch or even fast forward those annoying commercials. I see it as just another money grab like the auto industry and Grey Hound they are just by passing the political part and going straight to the consumer.

What ever happened to the day that when a company was not succesful they shut their doors and someone else took their place. What ever happened to survival of the fittest, Darwin must be rolling in his grave for as a species we are all destined to fail.

The cable and satellite companies are making free money. They need to send big bucks to the tv companies they are feeding off.

One problem with cable companies is that they pick and choose what channels you can watch. For example TSN2 and speed are not available on my cable unless you pay a substantial fee for them. Cable companies suck you dry.

There is that, too. When we first got satellite, we were told we could choose what channels we could get. Well, that was only part of it. They forgot to mention that the channels were parts of "packages". I see Shaw has "digital", "basic", and "classic: tv. Same idea.
I wrote and suggested that instead of them choosing what channels we could watch, we should be able to do that. I got an answer back that we can choose the "packages".
I said, I don't want to flip through 50 channels to find the one I want, I just want the channels I do watch and that having to get a package of a half dozen channels in order to be able to see the one I do want to watch is stupid.
They basically told me that "packages" are what is best for me.
I replied that they are not supplying a service, they are forcing their idea of what service is onto the public.

The CRTC and the CBSC (Canadian Broadcast Standards Council) are out-to-lunch.
