Political Nick have you ever heard of Africaville ? It is in Nova Scotia , last I looked they were part of Canada and I don't think the residents that lived there jumped on a boat from Jamaica .
No kidding Sherlock .Few Canadians know about this part of our history. It might have been a short-lived period of slavery, but slavery it was, and it is a part of our history.

It wasn't a country, but it still existed, just as a British colony. In fact, that is probably why slavery was so short-lived. Once the Queen condemned it and the British Parliament put an end to it, Canada had to toe the line.
