The Gun Registry Must be Deregistered!!

Rev,
but the purpose of the registry is so that the authorities know who has what for guns and if those guns are legal and legally owned.
Nonsense. The registry will not tell the authorities that. It’s purpose was to win votes from urban people.
There is no reason why they should not be registered and restricted.
Yes there is. Registration serves no purpose.

There is no reason why they should be registered.
You need a special license to operate heavy equipment or to sell booze.
No I don’t.
Because I have every right to own a weapon, but the guy half a block away from me has a history that should keep him from owning anything more lethal than a can opener.
That’s the guy who will have an arsenal of unregistered weapons, so that isn’t a reason for registration.
And when the cops are sent to a domestic dispute or to break up a loud party, they'd like to know if there are weapons in the house.
No doubt they would, but the registry will not tell them that.
Think that might have to do with increased licensing requirements and more regulated ownership?
No, more like safer cars with crumple zones and airbags, and seatbelt laws.

And if you check the statistics, you'll find that the northern States that run along our southern border have roughly the same, or in some cases, even better gun crime statistics than we. Seems it's more of a cultural cause for the rampant gun crime in the rest of the states.

The whole point of a gun registry is that, if your guns aren't registered, they can be taken away. If your guns are registered, you therefore have a right to have them.

All of you Harperites keep claiming that all the crimes are committed with UNREGISTERED GUNS. So, the registry provides a simple way for the police to decide which ones can be taken away. Therefore all you Harperites must be in favour of the registry, right?

Why are you people so inconsistent? You're contradicting your own bloody point.

Silly statements.

Registration always preceeds confiscation. In Britain, some weapons were required to be registered and the owners were assured they would never be confiscated. Then along came a horrific gun crime (massacre of 16 school kids in Scotland) and all the registered restricted weapons including handguns) were confiscated. Handgun crime then increased by something like 30%.

Here’s a simple concept; Guns used in the commission of a crime can be seized. Including those now registered. Saves the cost of the totally useless registry. And yes, registered guns can be seized. Officers responding to a domestic call, seeing guns, even legally owned, registered and stored, frequently seize them and it can take years to get them back.

he must be taking one of those speed reading courses.

I think I might have left the last couple of words off of that sentence.

Oh well, his determination to remain open-minded and refusal to be rude is kind of...well...it's kind of hot, actually. I've always kind of like a man that can handle guns too. Don't tell Mrs. Rev, but I think the Music Man could be my magic man, if you know what I mean.

You people persist in this insane delusion that "the government" wants to take your guns. You really really need some therapy. There's no point in debating this any more: there is a large group of people who suffer from some delusion about confiscation. If registration always preceeds confiscation, why aren't you worried about your cars? I use my car a lot more than I use my rifle, and I'm far more worried about "them" confiscating my car.

To use your logic, "they" are obviously planning to seize everyone's car, because, in your own words, registration always preceeds confiscation. And that reminds me, we had to "register" our children....are they going to be confiscated, too? I'd better run out and by an Uzi or an AK47 so that I can defend my family against the evil "they" who are going to take my car and my daughters.

I'm convinced that the big overspending on the gun registry was due to the same thing as the sponsorship scandal. I expect that if anyone really investigated, they'd find most of the money went elsewhere.

Let's face it: every Province runs a system for registering cars and trucks, and drivers. How hard could it possibly be to implement a similar system to register firearms? There is no possible way that it could cost what has been spent.

Did I miss something? I read a lot of threads without signing on, and that one post caught my attention, so I signed on and posted it. No speed reading involved. And Reverend Blair, I don't hink I am your type. My wife likes me though! (Hey, I AM trying to lighten up a little!) But playing in a country band sure let me see a lot of stuff you don't see everyday.

RE: The Gun Registry Must

I'm heartbroken now, my Magic Music Man. I have hope though, I can leave my wife if you'll leave yours. We can get a cabin back in the woods someplace and shoot our guns off all day long.

Registered guns or not?

Sorry, have to pass. No magic, no bullets.
