Im sorry Colpy but the grand schemes of things, it is people with your mind set that scare me the most. That Harper, Republican, Capitalist (quarterly profits, really thats as far into the future that you care about. And it is for capitalism is only about money and the bottom line. Dont kid yourself to think otherwise) mind set that is so short sighted that it is dangerous!

Why Colpy, why? How can a human being think in this way?
I am just curious, not trolling.
It just scares me that people with this kind of mindset have power.

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money."

It's just brute force thought control. Words are used like bullets meant to pierce your 'enemy'.

YaYip, you start with:

"Im sorry Colpy but the grand schemes of things, it is people with your mind set that scare me the most."

And you finish with:

'"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money."'

Your youthful naivete and inexperience in real life is clearly displayed here.
Your innocence is refreshing.

I put up a post that asked why and how people can have these kind of thoughts and mind set, but it was removed I guess. I was also asking Colpy how he can have these on a personal level.
I am NOT trolling!!!
I am just curious as to how other peoples minds work, what thoughts they have, why they have those thoughts and how do they justify them.
It is a question... that fact that we, as a society no longer wish to have confrontation, says something, doesn't it?

oops ignore that last post then...
it was just put up
my apologies to everyone

What that I have a learned, educated mind that thinks outside of the box, that acknowledges that the current options that those in power offer are not the only options we have
That there are new ways forward and not just the status quo
That money and debt has created a new class of slaves
That freedom is used my corporations to enslave us through fine print and bills and "services that are our choice to have" yet without them we can not complete in our current society
That there is more to life the material possession
Where oh where then is my naïveté and inexperience??
How can you make such an impromptu judgment based on one post?
How old are you?
How much do you read? From what sources? Who owns those sources? Where did you go to school? What do you read on a daily basis? Who do you converse with about global political topics? What are their credentials?

YaYip, my experience is that those who think that we should all live in caves with candlelight would think that those of us who believe in life's comforts and conveniences have an irresible urge to ruin the world, poison our rivers and oceans, foul our air and them leave the damaged Earth to our kids and grandkids.

Based on your few posts here, I can not help thinking that you are one of them.

News for you: I like breathing in clean air. I absolutely enjoy drinking clean water. I thrive on eating produce grown in clean soil. And I want to leave nothing less for my kids and grandkids.

However, unlike you, I do not see that driving my minivan, eating beef, keeping my home comfortable in winter and summer, using incandescent light bulbs and disagreeing with Al Gore is a sure way to destroy Earth.

I can not speak for Colpy, but I am reasonably sure that he would agree with me.

Those 'corporate slaves' you feel so sympathetic to are the comfortable middle class.
The freedom you fear does not exist, allow EVERYONE to speak as they wish.
The material possessions may not be the be all and end all, but it is sure nice to have them. Like the computer you peck your messages out on. Or the car you drive. Or if you haven't got them fuels your envy?
One post is often enough. If I said in one post something racist it would be enough, wouldn't it?
I am sure I am older - but more importantly - more experienced than you. I read and learn in more than one language. From all sources, be they agreeing or disagreeing with my own views. Mostly on the daily basis. I exchange opinions on this and other forums and my most credible and valuable credential is the degree granted from the school of hard knocks, which may or may not be granted to you in the next 70 years.

Not destroy the earth, but it can make the air dirtier, the water dirtier, and the soil less productive. That will be less for your kids and grand kids.

That post and, sadly, many like it could only come from those who are convinced that the Earth and all its happy occupants were better off in the long gone glorious days when there were no internal combustion engines, nuclear plants, box stores, no electricity, no television, no radio, no telephone, no internet, no ....... you name it, and they would like to take us back there.

They forget that humankind has this habit of overcoming seemingly unconquarable difficulties. Almost like they have no faith in Science!!!

They seem to think that preservation of our world and living comfortably are mutually exclusive.

I work in a field of science, I know how it works, and I know about limitations. You want to have your cake and eat it too. I don't have that kind of blind faith that those who appeal to "science" to solve all our problems without acknowledging behavioural consequences have.

I have more faith in science than in Al Gore's "science".

If you can not see the damage humans have done to the earth, then I just feel sorry and very very sad for you.
Your old school way of thinking, from your skewl of hard knocks, is one of the major obstacles facing our species and planet.

You assume, which make an ass of u and me, that you have to have a combustion engine in order to have a mini van... as an example that you used. This is no longer the case. WE have the technology to change.
You assume that I do not like technology, but I am in favour of technology and R&D and investment in education and advancements. But just because we can do something does it mean that we should? Where is the responsibility? Where is the Line between pollution and profits vs. balance and sustainability? I believe we can keep our current standard of living while lowering our resource intake.

I know my needs vs. my wants, and I can live without ALL my wants. I am a man like that.

Can you live without all your wants? Can you man up?

Based upon the election results, Canadians want to live, not be overly careful and squirrel thing away for better times, we are living in the better times enjoy what we now have. Tomorrow is but a dream. Man will do as he has always done and do what is best for himself. Prophets of doom have always been around, yet we still surive.

TORONTO – Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper won his coveted majority government in elections that changed Canada's political landscape, with the opposition Liberals and Quebec separatists suffering a shattering defeat.

Tomorrow is but a dream. Man will do as he has always done and do what is best for himself. Prophets of doom have always been around, yet we still surive.

While walking down the street one day a "Member of Parliament" is tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
'Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter.
'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.'
'No problem, just let me in,' says the man.
'Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.'
'Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the MP.
'I'm sorry, but we have our rules.'
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises....
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
'Now it's time to visit heaven.'
So, 24 hours pass with the MP joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
'Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.'
The MP reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.'
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. ' I don't understand,' stammers the MP.
'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

What happened? '
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, ' Yesterday we were campaigning.....
Today you voted.
