I think you misunderstand.

Damn, I HATE discussing theology.

If they are if they believe the scriptures, if they have accepted that Jesus Christ died for them, if they have accepted Jesus Christ as God.........then they have a personal relationship. One of gratitude, one of worship.

If not, they are not Christians. They may be Deists, or agnostics, or any one of a hundred other perfectly acceptable beliefs....

But they are kidding themselves if they call themselves "Christian" without meeting the basic requirements

There is no half-way.

You can not be a Christian terrorist without being Christian. And being Christian precludes being a terrorist.

Not so with Islam.

I always get a kick out of people that set their own standards for what is and isn't a Christian. From my perspective, it is silly for somebody like yourself to call yourself a Christian because you fail to follow the basic teachings of Christ. I guess the difference between us is that I don't think you have to use my standard to label yourself. Why do you feel that I (or anybody else) should use yours.

I kinda like Bill Maher's take on it

Bill Maher nails it! - YouTube

I read the Oslo nutjob's manifest and I am 100% certain his actions were not motivated by Christianity or Christian extremism.

Here is his reasoning for killing all those people:

Oslo lax immigration laws allow too many Muslims into Norway.
Eventually Muslims will outnumber Norwegians as a result of immigration and high birth rate.
When Muslim Norwegians outnumber regular Norwegians, they will use democratic means to impose Sharia law on all Norwegians.
Sharia law will result in Norway becoming a Muslim fundamentalist state and non-Muslims Norwegians becoming enslaved in Dhimitude.
Therefore Norway must block Muslim immigration or face cultural extinction.
The root cause of this threat, isn't Muslims who can't help being what they are and breeding like vermin. Its their nature.
The problem is Norwegian politicians who are blind to the Muslim cultural threat.
The solution is to kill as many moderate Norwegian politicians and their families as possible in order to alert Norwegians and Western Nations to the Muslim cultural threat, shift power to the more aware right wing parties and inspire others to fight against the Muslim cultural threat.
He proposed criminalizing Islam and forcing all Norwegian Muslims to assimilate, emigrate to a Muslim country or face lengthy prison sentences.

He claims to have nothing against Muslims and even claims he had some Muslim friends.

The Oslo nutjob referenced the same neoconservative opinions embraced by many neocons here on this forum and millions of Neoconservatives in Europe and North America. Many neocons here on this forum and elsewhere share the same fear of the Muslim cultural threat and agree with the Oslo nutjob's warped logic. Hopefully no neocons will come to the same conclusions regarding how to deal with this perceived Muslim cultural threat.

The Oslo nutjob is a neoconservative extremist. Extreme neoconservativism alone inspired his murderous rampage. His actions had little to nothing to do with Christian extremism, since he seldom went to church. He can barely be described as Christian and certainly he was not devout or obsessed with Christianity.

I'm sure Norwegian authorities are closely examining the neoconservative websites and personalities referenced in the nutjob's manifest for hate crimes and advocating violence. Hopefully some of these hate and fear mongering neocons will be charged for inciting irrational hate towards an identifiable group.

Gee, this all sounds so familiar..... I wonder where I have heard similar sentiments?

"My brand of Christianity"? What I profess lines up with the bible, which is the infallible, inerrant word of God.

Muslims believe in God, creator of the universe. Can you give me any theological evidence that says Christians and Muslims are BOTH going to heaven?

And besides, I already told you, the devil has no doubts about God's existence. Is he going to be allowed to enter heaven one day?

Jesus replied: "I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. NO ONE comes to the father EXCEPT THROUGH ME." (John 14:6)

You and I CANNOT call ourselves brothers in Christ.

5 things we must agree on to call ourselves brothers:

1) Jesus was God. The promised Messiah who fulfilled the prophecies of God himself breaking into the world.

2) Jesus was born from a virgin. Scientists can now clone an animal without a sexual act. If man can do it, don't doubt for a second that God who created the entire universe could!

3) Jesus died on the cross. He received our punishment for our sins.

4) Jesus was resurrected from death and hell. He's alive today!

5) Jesus is coming back, just like he said he would.
............................

LOL, He said he would, unfortunately, he said it would be during the lifetime of his disciples. Seems he missed his cue somewhere along the way.

Surely you do realize the books of the bible were written, not by Jesus or God, but by men, some many centuries after He supposedly died.

Oh and did you know artificial insemination was available back then?? How do you suppose Jesus could lay claim to being of the line of David?? AND Jesus Himself denied being God!! He claimed to be the son of God, and he did not make himself "the one and only". Those with no clue came up with that one. Remember the prayer he taught which begins "OUR FATHER???" Why would you accept that which makes the rest of humanity second class when God Himself, was supposedly proud of His creations??

Not so with Islam.
Is it necessary for people to call you out on your blatant and relentless bigotry?

Anyone who follows Christianity - which you happen to follow - can not do evil or bad, or else they're not a Christian. I hope you're aware that most Muslims make the exact same claim you do; that true Muslims don't commit acts of terrorism; it's against the teaching of Islam to commit terrorism.

Have some semblance of thoughtfulness, please.

(Not to mention that both you and Bill O'Reilly invoked the No True Scotsman fallacy. A Christian did the terrorist attacks. B-but, they're not a true Christian!)

So, it comes down to religion being the problem. It has been used by those with god-like aspirations to impose their particular idiology since the beginning of time. Religion, in my opinion, destroys peace or sanity and presently, is producing the blatant privileged and the poorer slave army (figuratively speaking).

Jerusaleum was invaded by the Byzantine Empire (Muslim), a mere 6 years following the demise of Mohammed.....who did espouse peace and fellowship with Christians. This was followed by the Christian Crusades....ending up with the Crusaders becoming a renegade force, attacking Christian Constantinople in 1204. This separated the Eastern & Western Christian church and the destruction of the Byzantine Empire and the burning of the world's most famous library.

Instead of attacking Christianity, Islam etc. isn't it time to rethink the whole "religion" thing??

He wasn't invoking the fallacy, just showing the parallel of two of the same fallacy. It was using the wrongness of one to highlight the wrongness of another.

My parents are Catholic and they do not have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Are you saying they're not Christians?
Just because someone claims to be Catholic, but does not have a relationship with Jesus, does not make them christians. You cannot be a christian and not have a relationship with God/Jesus.
Obviously they are not practising Catholics. I am not a Catholic and for the record - I don't believe in many of the things Catholics do that they say make them christians. I strongly believe that Communion is Communion and all christians should be able to participate in Communion as one. Catholics do not allow non-Catholics to take communion inside the walls of their church. I consider that non-christian on their part. I also do not believe that confession has any effect whatsoever unless the confessor, confesses with the promise to never take part in the same sin again (committing murder not included - there is no confessing and forgiving for that). With those two things in mind, I often have trouble looking at Catholics as christians anyway. That said, not all Catholics act that way and really are christians so I do not discount their religion anymore than I "count" all those who claim to be a christian because they say they are Catholic. That goes for most religions anyway. I am a christian who belives that we all have the right to worship the way we choose but if you do not have a relationship with God/Jesus, then being a christian is not who you are.
Christianity has taken on a bad name because non christians use religion as an excuse to start wars. They just find a quote from any bible that fits their cause. Even the Koran has reference to God; Jesus and The Virgin Mary. I have not read the Koran. I have a friend who has been a Chistian and is a Muslim. I think he believes there is one God for all religions, as do I.

Follow along carefully MF, you might figure out that I use specific words/wording, for a reason too.

"Quote "Christianity has taken on a bad name because non christians use religion as an excuse to start wars."

There is only one criteria to being Christian........that one believes that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ sent to wash away humanity's sins through His death. Nothing else. A person can fail to live up to the 10 commandments time and time again but believing that Jesus Christ died so that no matter how many times they fall from grace, belief in Jesus Christ redeems them.

So, even Hitler who professed to believe in Jesus Christ was a forgiven sinner. He believed he was following God's wishes, just as Bush and Robertson and all those other "nutballs" who hear the voice of God, are saved and good Christians. And hey how much closer can a relationship be, when God talks directly to one??LOL.

"Believe in me (Jesus Christ) and have everlasting life." That's it, that's all there is.

Then that person is neither believing in or following the ten commandments and is therefore a non Christian. Truthfully - we put too much emphasis on the term "christian". Good people would be a much better term. There are a few hooligans on here that I've been hanging out with for years. I have no idea if they are christians or not and it matters not. That's not quite true. Some have declared they are not christians but it does not matter because they are good people. Being good, kind and on a place like this, tactful and diplomatic is everything. I've never once asked a friend if they are a christian before befriending them. I've known lots of christians (or people who call themselves that) that would never be invited into my home.
I do believe in Jesus Christ. If it turns out I am wrong - I'll never know.

That is not what Jesus nor the Bible says. Christians are not perfect, otherwise they would not have needed a Messiah. Believing in a Messiah does not negate belief in the the 10 commandments. Because nobody is perfect, there is not a single person who has always kept all the commandments but even most professed non-Christians do strive for morally correct conduct.

Christians are believers .....there are many more "good people" than there are true Christians. If one does not believe one's sins are gone because Jesus died for that purpose, then they are not Christians. Very simple. To be honest, I am not a Christian, because it is very difficult to believe in a God who could not find a better way than elevating one soul above others and then killing Him off in order to save the rest of His creations. Not logical at all.

Quite right.....I accept that believers of Christianity must have read and studied the Bible, the book that explains what one is asked to believe in. I did exactly that, very carefully, and came away unable to accept such a presentation of what is supposed to be an All-Knowing, All-Seeing Entity. It absolutely stuns me to find the most strident, often know very little about the Bible, the book that is supposed to be the Word of God!!

I believe that a woman who has been raped has the right to an abortion. Beyond that - I do not. I do not believe in Capital punishment and I hate war. I've said all this lots of times before gerry so you knew the answer before you asked.
I'm sure there are people who believe that the woman who becomes pregnant after rape should carry the child to term and give it up for adoption. So then she is forced to re-live her rape over and over for the rest of her life. She also has to live a life wondering if she may in fact be raising a child who may become the same kind of person her rapist was. No one can say with certainty she is not unless she has a girl where the chances are then severely reduced. Adoption means she has to give up a child she carried for nine months and giving it up for many women, would leave them to live with a guilt they should not have to bear along with the memory of the rape for the rest of their lives. While I don't believe any woman would look at her child and remember on a daily basis how that child came into being, it would always be there somewhere in the back of her mind. What happens when that child wants to know who their Daddy is? What kind of life do they live if they learn the truth? I cannot begin to imagine how I would feel knowing I was the product of a rape.
We do not have the right to take a life even if the law says we can. With the one and only exception I have noted above and that is a very personal decision by the decision maker. I do believe that "Life" in prison should mean exactly that and not 25 years with the chance of bail and it should not mean we have the right to take a life because someone else did. We are both christians gerry. I pray for world peace and I bet you do too.
I don't understand why people would be invited to view an execution and more than that, I don't understand why anyone would watch.
