The last eight years have seen momentous events such as the September 11 attacks, the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina and an economic recession. The grand finale of President Bush's two terms has been a milestone election that turned the country's political makeup on its head.
Ted Stanke of New York created a symbolic map of the United States out of toy soldiers to protest the Iraq war.








History defined Bush's time in office, and now the world waits to see how history defines him.

We asked readers to share their views on Bush's legacy on iReport.com. What we saw was an overwhelmingly negative appraisal of their sitting president, with some exceptions.
These responses appear to be on par with the views of the nation as a whole, if the numbers are any indication.

Just 27 percent of the respondents to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll said they approved of Bush's handling of his job as president.

Respondents also indicated they didn't want him to have future influence, with 66 percent saying they didn't want to see the president return to public life. Still, President Bush said during his final news conference Monday that he wasn't planning on spending his newfound free time at the beach.

Many readers with whom we spoke expressed deep frustration over the way Bush handled political issues such as the Iraq war and the economy.

Those early days seem so far away, especially before September 11th! I don't even think I remember what Bush was like before that time! So many terms and sayings will end up becoming synonymous with Bush's eight years in office: "With us, or against us," "Axis of Evil," "WMDs," "noo-cue-ler," "Mission Accomplished," or maybe not that last one. Some headlines I'd rather have seen over the years, "Osama bin-Laden captured!" "Taliban defeated!" "Peace in the Holy Land!" History will likely be kinder to Bush than his contemporaries are, but a Washington, Lincoln or Roosevelt he will not become. What is interesting to note is that some of the worst presidents in history have been followed by some of the best presidents, (Buchanan to Lincoln, Hoover to Roosevelt). Perhaps we will have a bright future to look forward to.

The people who were the most grateful for the Bush regime are the ancestors of James Buchanan - (15th President) who no longer have to live in shame of the distinction of "the worst President in history"

September 11th (ad nauseam), the Iraq `War` and the financial hole they`ve dug themselves in were events brought upon themselves, by themselves.

Why do they have so much trouble accepting these facts? :roll:

Katrina was an `Act of God`.....the same god that blesses America every day? lol

Bush should be hung by the neck on the Whitehouse lawn if America needs closure.

Well, two out of three ain't bad.....in fact, for you it is damned outstanding!

But....I didn't hear that the Bush administration flew aircraft into the WTC, the Pentagon, etc.....or are you one of THOSE nuts? Conspiracy theorists, I mean.

"But....I didn't hear ".....

They, Colpy, brought it on themselves. Decisive, one-sided US forgien policy.

How and why it was allowed to happen will eventually come to light but I`m afraid to late to prosecute, if ever. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years will the truth be known (investigated)....but not now. For now, America is still licking it`s wounds and not ready to admit the obvious truths or look into the many`conspiracies` surrounding the event.
Another failure on thier part.

The Bush regime is a mere stepping-stone in the process of it`s (the US) down-fall.

Gotta love CBC radio news. Yesterday they aired a good portion of GeeDub's "welcome" speech to Obama. Then later they just played 2 little clips from it (I don't have the exact words but it went like this):

"There is still an enemy out there who wants to destroy us......
And I wish him the best of luck."

I about fell off my chair, laughing.

Bush answered "I don’t know", shrugged his solders and said for the second time "I don’t know". That is Bush’s Legacy…… Apathy at its best.

His father came close for mangling the language and Reagan provided alot of comedic fodder. Pound for pound though, Little George is. was and forever will be .... hard to beat
