In the OP I mention how little we know

It's all about perspective though right? The OP mentions our understanding of the beginnings of the universe to be likened to a grain of sand upon a beach. To me that suggests the "truth" (whatever that means to people) is pretty much wide open to both interpretation and ability to study and learn.

Another point would be not noting what is right before our eyes.
That's also maybe an issue of perspective, not seeing what's right before our eyes. Once we've seen something, we tend to see the same thing in it over and over again. It's hard to look at something old with new eyes. But we all look at the world around us in slightly different ways, being all individual and whatnot, so maybe it takes a while before someone comes along who looks at the world in just the 'right kind of different' way to show us what was there all along.

See.... you are one of the few that can be objective to see both sides or more sides of an issue. That I respect and admire.

I'm just always intrigued with why, why people say the things they say, act the way they act, think the things they think. I always figure if I understand others better, than I can better communicate with them.

Some folks make it difficult though, lol.

And thank you. :)

I see too many hurt people here. They need to backlash but don't know why. To me , some will never evolve , yes I know that sounds very arrogant but most people never change.

Sometimes I've felt that way about some people, they've seemed shallow and superficial (from my perspective) and pretty much stuck in a rut, doing the same things over and over again, both good and bad. Never interested in more or different, learning or growing.

But I've also had enough experiences with people that I've assumed that about who have turned around and surprised me. I guess it just made me realize that we pretty much all get there in our own way and in our own time.

When you are down and out, life is in turmoil, the most common point mentioned, based only on what I have seen is- you then find that friends can & do disappear, and those that you thought were not friends are right there with you to help.

I am quite at peace with my beliefs, as you are with yours.
Does it really matter that we have differing beliefs?
I wouldn't say I'm at peace with my beliefs, I'm constantly testing them, and in general yes it does matter that people have differing beliefs, not least because a lot of people believe things that are demonstrably false. I want to know what's true, and how to find out what's true, and how to know something is true, but I'd rather not know than believe something that's not true. Beliefs motivate actions, so if people's beliefs are false their actions are likely to be wrong.

OK- Poorly phrased on my part and thank you for bringing that up.
My beliefs are tested as well, from forgiveness, to doing the hard things in my work that need to be done, does not mean I have to humiliate a person, does not mean I like doing it. Just that it has to be done.

I have explained that my beliefs are based upon the teachings of Jesus, as one thread topic brought forward, he never condemned homosexuality, it was present then, and present in spades, but no record of him condemning it.

The record we have show he spoke about caring for those that society has forgotten or treats poorly.
In my opinion, my beliefs are valid.

You want logic based evidence on everything, I am fine with that, and I would never try to change that, those beliefs are what makes you who you are. I believe we all have a purpose during this life.

And as I asked in a Thread I posted- not exact wording- where did we get our morals from?

I'm of two minds on that one. On the one hand there is simply no excuse for judging someones personal choices simply because they don't conform with your own. But on the other hand, I suppose if one were truly convinced of a singular right path and truly wished to help others, then I can understand trying to convey that and convince others. I think maybe there's just a fine line between informing and intruding when it comes to these matters. The ability to employ tact comes in handy.

I'm somewhat cynical and most definitely a very skeptical person myself. But sometimes I do think the world would be a far sadder place were it not for those who see things not as they are but as they should be. I agree it takes strength of character to accept the realities of life and deal with them head on, but the flip side of that is there has to be some measure of strength in those who can see past it as well.

Basically I just think we all have a role to play and we each have to play to our personal strengths.

Their personal choices are fine if kept that way. But all to often religious fanatics murder anyone that does not follow their narrow views.

Being religious doesn't automatically make someone a fanatic though. What a fanatic does is basically akin to wedge politics, they play an exaggerated role and attempt to turn people against everyone of "their kind".

Frankly I think the more that people buy into it all, the more the fanatics win.

There's nothing at all like seeing the light of dawning knowledge in someone's eyes (mine included, but I'm very rarely near a mirror when it happens) when they finally understand something. Especially after they've struggled with it.It's immensely awesome. :D

Watching my kids grow up and watching their reactions when they had done something unacceptable according to their usual nature (as well as stuff from my own experiences), I'd have to say from ourselves. The youngest actually said she felt bad after doing something bad and if there ever was anyone sincere in their words it is her. And societies' mores are built by people communicating their mutual ideal behaviors, morals, etc.

No it's not, but it's not demonstrably true either, and the weight of evidence is not in its favour.
Nor are the probabilities.
