As a former Toronto resident, I do pay some attention to what is happening there. I watch previously safe neighbourhoods turn ugly, I watch bad areas become war zones, and even daytime shooting on the main street.
Facts...
them I watch the mythical spins being played out.
Miller screams about Gun bans,
The CBC provides a report about the shootings across Canada and ends the report saying the Fed's are not willing to move on a Gun ban.
And all the while the people of Toronto stick their heads in the sand...calling each and every murder isolated..and continuing the slogan "Livable City" and "Toronto the Good"
I personally don't care if they ban handguns...I don't have one..i don't use one..I don't need one, BUT If they think for one min. that a ban on handguns would have even the slightest affect on crime they are sadly mistaken. I actually think they already know that but it's a way to deflect. The Feds are looking at getting rid of the long gun registry (which btw also has no effect) so they will not be very interested in other gun laws. Given that fact the other levels of Government can deflect the issues to them, then say see there have no interest..but we tried,
Most hand gun ownership is already banned in Canada, and many of the types of hand guns on the street are illegal here.
I would normally never be on side with Jack Layton, but his thoughts of asking the U.S. to control and limit some of their guns would go further. A $150 buck cheapy from Ohio can fetch $400 in Toronto...Thats a good mark up...and thats where they come from.
Sure social issues need to be adressed, why are young men settling everything with death, but thats a later issue.
The guy who killed this kid last weekend was out of jail from crimes that should have carried much longer sentences than he had. If we started the New York city broken window policy you would wacth the crime rate drop..if for no other reason then that the criminals are in jail. Then you can start new social programs to keep the next batch from following this horrid lifestyle...
My thoughts..for what their worth.
