I have a flag pin in mine simply because I want to own it for more than the 30 minutes it takes for the normal ones to fall out somewhere on the ground. A pin secures it nicely for the 2 weeks prior to 11/11.
Removing the center of the pin detracts from the symbology.

Remember when the centers were mainly green and just a few were black?

Green centers were made by surviving veterans and their families.

Black ones were made by widows of soldiers and their families.

If the PQs thought they could win a referendum they would call another one. Instead,
the premier figuratively makes faces over the back fence.

...and take a look at that face.. someone should let her know halloween is over and it's time to take the scary mask off now.. lol

I just wish Quebec would secede..............

Me too, and the rest of Canada just join the USA. That's it, that's all. Finished.

At least there's one who remembers that the wearable poppy came to be with these stipulations. The whole remembrance issue using the poppy was carefully thought out back in the day and it was done with nothing but respect at it's core. To modify or change so as to "add" something personal or other than it's original strictly defined meaning is to denigrate the very intent of the wearable poppy. No flag, colour, background, size, center, or other change should be done to it to make it either more convenient or more attractive etc..

Thoughtless behaviour!

While I agree this is not appropriate I think we get all tied up harping on it.
The result, we end up talking about the PQ Leader and not about the boys
who fought for us. At the same time we should be careful not to bad mouth
Quebecers on this its the Premier not everyone in Quebec. Look at the
polls, people in Quebec are not in favour of separating at all its down to less
than 49% which means more and more citizens in Quebec are opting in not out.
It should be pointed out that people voted for the PQ for reasons that did not
include separation and we should keep that in mind.

And that is most probably her whole point. To make the story about her, not the veterans.
Looks like it worked.

Missing the point requires you to imply that ALL of us who've posted about this issue have inferred that only Marois is guilty of this little infraction and that is just not so. She is the most recent and egregious infraction perhaps but not alone.

Regardless if the National symbol of the Maple Leaf is used in lieu of a party or provincial logo; ALL who modify the wearable poppy in any manner are taking something particular of it's design and altering it contrary to it's intent to suit their personal agenda!

They are all wrong.

In all honesty I put a permanent pin in mine whenever I can otherwise I'm always losing the darned thing because the pins aren't sufficient. It's not so much that I don't want to "buy" another one, it's just a pain in the butt. I'd rather give a healthy donation the first time around and wear the same poppy for two weeks. Is that so much to ask really?

I usually use the clip off the back of a Canadian Flag pin on the end of the Poppies pin.
I learned this trick years ago back when I was moving furniture, and in the stairwell of
an apartment building wrestling a sofa up a flight of stairs. The pin on the poppy under
my coat sunk into my pec to the felt as I slid the sofa down my chest. Sucked pulling
it out.

This year so far I've bought & lost two Poppies, and haven't seen a Canadian Flag pin
to rob the clip off of as of yet. Maybe that'll be part of my mission once I'm out'a my PJ's.

I have to admit that the current method of affixing the poppy to your jacket, hat, etc,
leaves something to be desired. The single, bent common pin invariably falls out.
If you have a good pair of small, needle nose pliers, you can introduce a small curl
on the sharp end of the pin to keep it from falling out. I have no objections to anyone
using something to hold the poppy in place. My objection was simply to some dopey
politician using the poppy as a political vehicle

Fair enough... But just look at the title of this thread and it's easy to see how many can have a selective view on the issue.

A normal thicker push pin replacing the "tire iron" style and cut to a shorter length will allow the use of one of those squeeze clasps on the back quite nicely.

Is it wrong that I have a small yellow ribbon pin holding my poppy on my hat?

It's clear to me that you'll burn in hell for that. I'm sure you were already going there in the first place but that just nails the coffin!

Seems to me we had essentially the same discussion when some idiot was flogging white poppies.
No it is not OK to **** around with the poppies on remembrance day. Want to do something different pick a different day.

What's wrong with a white poppy? Not Canadian enough for you?
