Breaking Canadian law does not make one a criminal. It is against the law to drive faster than the posted speed limit. Getting a speeding ticket does not make one a criminal.

Actually a person who has committed a crime (broke the law) is a criminal.. I think you mean felon, which is someone who commits a felony... a serious crime.

Hmmm...I always thought somebody that ran afoul of the criminal code of Canada was a criminal and that is why they had a criminal record. Who knew litterbugs and people that drove with one headlight were criminals? I guess you learn something new every day.

I think you are confusing criminal with felon. All felons are criminals, but not all criminals are felons. It depends on the severity of the criminal offense. Criminals can be guilty of misdemeanors (minor crimes) or felonies (serious crimes of varying degrees).

Out of curiousity, what immigration rules should we allow to be broken, and where do we draw the line?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just wondering, since your point of view is that rules aren't rules, how do you decide?

I say let the punishment be proportional to the offense. These girls are students, not stow aways that managed to sneak into the country. Their violation was working at walmart, not murder.

It disappoints me that Wal*Mart Regina had to let go of it's two smartest employees.

Well well well. NIMBY NIMBY eh?
It's literally my backyard and I certainly don't givea **** and they never "took our jobs". There are nearly 3000 vacant positions in a city of 250,000 with probably the lowest unemployment rate in north america.

Canadians are too afraid to get cold for a couple weeks of the year.

On the contrary. I support immigration to Canada and multiculturalism within limits. Many people from all over the world have skills and knowledge that would add to Canada. These girls are foreign students who flunked out. Sorry but they didn't make the grade.

I support Canada giving foreign students the opportunity to learn in Canada and if they graduate and get a job, they can stay. If they flunk out they go home. Hopefully most of them will go home and and make a contribution to society.

Meanwhile millions of highly qualified and skilled people are better immigration candidates.

Based on the letter that was released by the U of Regina (failing grades), I'm guessing that the student in question would have had to leave the country on that basis alone. I can't help but wonder if getting a job was an idea to help pay the bills and pass the time for the 2 semesters that she had to wait.

Either way, she had broken the agreement/contract

To work at the Regina south Wal*Mart? These two speak perfect english, have 3 years of University and I'll bet the farm that those two jobs sit vacant at this very moment. We've already hit our imposed immgration cap in SK and lazy *** Canadians with opportunity to emigrate aren't filling the 10,232 jobs posted in Saskatchewan today SaskJobs.ca - Real Careers. Real Life. fast enough. It's been that way for 4 years and every years those jobs are filled but the demand is still for another 10K to 12K more. Why are we short 10 232 people in SK a country like Canada?

You'd fail too if hiding in a church.

Should we go after people like this or should those jobs go to American and Mexican illegals which are invading SK? The 10,232 jobs are like hitting the jackpot for illegals.

So much for immunity whilst in a church

You go after all or none.

Let's be honest here, these 2 girls didn't do anything that was detrimental to the community, but, the law is the law... I think that it's a shame that they are being made an example of, but that is the way that this scenario is unraveling.

I think in the end it comes down to, "Did these two have S.I.N.#'s & thus the ability
to pay income taxes in Canada?" That's most likely the punchline here.

If they can work on campus they must be taxed somehow.

U of R doesn't allow any non-campus run businesses on campus, so sandwich artist, barista, beer wench and soda jerk jobs are off campus.

If they don't, why did WalMart hire them? I think the party wich had made the mistake is WalMart. They should never have been given the jobs.

And I don't like people breaking the law but sometimes intent is the most important part. This is a first offense, record it and move on. I don't see any intent to be criminal just a mistake.

If they have failed their courses, then they should be deported on those grounds. But that is between them and the university. If the university is revoking that suspension, then they should be free to return to their studies.

There are alot of foreign students in Canada. If you say University of Red China really fast it sounds the same as University of Regina.

If they can be taxed on campus the can can be taxed off campus. The labour is needed the taxes are a bonus and we all have a Merry Christmas.

I wouldn't think a work permit should have been hard to obtain with a labour market as you state.

What is more laughable is the mound of government buracracy that this has triggered. No one department knows how to fix or is allowed to use any brains they do have.

We keep hitting our immigrant work visa cap. Kenney won't raise it. It's up to Kenney to allow them to work off campus and the Province has been fighting Kenney on it.

SK and AB will both be NEEDING another 250,000 skilled people within the next 10 years which means another 250,000 unskilled jobs.

They are going to have to come from somewhere.

Where?

If the level is set at the provincial level, why is it not under provincial control? The more you learn about our government, the stupider it looks.

No no no. The Feds set the cap and the Province wants it raised yesterday. There are millions of unemployed American's who'd love a job and life in Canada.
