I think the ISO is cranked too. I let someone fool around with my camera one day ... and now I can't quite get it right. I think its set to 1600 ... Canon 30D ... probably similar to the 60 ... do you know which button I hit and what I'm looking for in the view finder to lower that? It's definitely in auto mode, and I used to have much cleaner photos.
I usually get caught before I can take the shot ... perhaps my intentions are written all over my face before I can put my finger on the button.
Look on the top of your camera, you should see a button on the far right labelled "ISO", press it once then turn the thumb wheel to the left, located in the upper right corner. Turn it until you see 100.
Just a suggestion, don't shoot auto mode, it makes a mess of photos.
If I were you, I would set the camera to aperture priority mode (AV). That way you can lock the aperture at lets say F2.8 and then the camera will figure out the shutter speed needed. To do this, turn the wheel on the far left until it's pointed to "Av". Then, Turn the right thumb wheel to the aperture desires (f2.8, F4 etc). You'll get a lot better photos this way.
