RE: So..what happened to

They're just using C-36 (do they have a name for it now that it's no longer a bill? I call it the Rights Raping anti-terrorist law, but that's kind of long) because it's easier than building an actual case against Zundel.

That's one of the many problems with our right's raping "anti-terrorist" act...it works well for avoiding the law.

That doesn't make Zundel a nice guy. From everything I've seen and heard (and I've done a fair bit of reading outside of the official channels) he's a racist little prick who would like to pretend the Holocaust never happened due to his hatred of Jews.

That shouldn't mean that he can be denied his rights or due process of the law though. Just because the Crown can't build a solid enough case that they feel comfortable going to court doesn't mean they should be able to lock the guy up or ship him someplace that will. If they can't build a case, then he should go free.

So far they've gone after five or six people with this law. One of them was a journalist who committed the heinous crime of writing about the Maher Arar case. Others have had security certificates issued against them and are facing deportation to countries where they will be tortured and possibly killed. The brutal wrongness of what happened to Arar seems to have roots in the same mindset that made C-36 possible.

In the case of Zundel and all the rest...either make a case or release them. The Right's Raping anti-terrorist law should be repealed and Annie McLellan should be whipped for pushing it through.

There is another case where a Canadian government lawyer is trying to stop David icke from speaking here and also stopping shops from selling his books....fortunately there are shops that believe in freedom of speech and refuse to bow to Warmans pressure......he accuses David of being anti-jewish,(there's that word again) despite people in the jewish community coming out in support of David.

Re: So..what happened to my "freedom of speech" th

Another tidbit about Zundel is that he has written that UFO's have a secret base in the Antarctic, so clearly this guy isn't a run of the mill anti-semite, in fact he ran for the liberal leadership against Pierre Trudeau in the sixties and has more jewish friends than probably you or I (I think I met one once!). In fact although I haven't seen his particular quote about the holocaust most of his stuff is too moderate for neo-nazi's. Most of the 'anti-semite' stuff is in fact a 'warning' to jewish friends that unfazed support of Israel will lead to repercussions against 'unprotected' jews-not from him, however. To me that sounds like common sense, but in a world where Israel can only be mentioned with reverence it is taboo.

I've written elsewhere that the government, when trying him the second time, had the equipment to put him away legally in the late eighties if they had only passed a private members bill which would have made it illegal to knowingly spread falsehoods. However, the media lobby quickly killed that bill.

If you actually look at Zundels' behaviour it seems quite clear that he has become mentally unstable to a certain degree, however, his former acts of 'grandstanding' could be attributed to a sound strategy of keeping his media profile up to ensure that he received a fair trial. As somebody who follows local trials closely, that is not a bad idea. To go along with bill c-36 are other troubling activities like banning people's charter right of freedom of assembly by not letting organizers meet. Also the freedom of mobility where protestors have even been banned from certain areas except to appear in court on typically trumped up charges. I think canadians should stop fixating on the US so much and have a look in their own backyard.

I seem to recall also a group of men who were arrested early on after september 11 because they made the mistake of being middle eastern, being together, and being near a power plant, however, I don't remember the specifics.

there was nothing hateful in the orignal post, quite the contrary, it was about helping someone and at the same time preserving something we should value dearly.

mind putting the original thread back up Andem please?

If I had the original thread, I would be able to identify it's contents if they were promoting hate. However, I don't.

I just know that Ernst Zündel raises a red flag immediately, and it's really tough to keep the forums clean. It's become much more difficult.

You can repost it...
