The holiday is to celebrate the birth nothing more..never was. It is suppose to be a time of peace, giving (of yourself) to bring strangers in. To show the love of god to each and all.

This i am afraid has been totally lost and wraped up in earthly ways and desires. I really don't thing God cares less if we have a tree, what kind of tree, of if it's the right gimme gift..

You can't cancel Christmas, it has nothing to do with "more stuff"

Don't forget about Easter and Halloween..... oh, and St. Patricks' day.... they've all been thrown to the Marketing dogs......

And one of the worst offenders is Valentines Day.

I've been told by the GF that in Australia, they don't celebrate most of these holidays and the ones they do, they certainly do not go all out like what we do here.

She has yet to see our Christmas and Halloween yet..... he he....

You may not be Christian, and perhaps neither am I (In the sense of the word anyways) but if you think Christmas is just about spending money and keeping the economy going, then you really don't know what christmas really is.....

I think you've been listening to the TV and the commercials too long.

I bet you didn't have a problem with it back when you were little and you got toys and presents from your family.... regardless if you followed the faith or not. :p

Busted not, I keep the Yuletide pact of my dearly departed ancestors, I observe the tunings and turnings and wait for the resurection of Sol like the rest of you. I know what the time is and I am obediant. In the season my goodwill extends even to the pretenders whose piles of plastic poison the time with fakery and falsehood as they ruin thier own to debase themselves before mammon. The pretending priests have stolen the gift of the rebirth from the faithfull and they must make restitution in time and weight of thier foul spirits. Now I have to get to work, there's still a quarter bag of the prayerple that needs me wanton lust.:smile:

The Pope has invited me to spend Christmas at the Vatican this year, I told him I don't swing that way nor am I twelve, but he insisted.

They will never cancel Christmas, its way to profitable. I wonder if canceling Christmas would make the current economy problems look like a picnic?

Oh Christmas! I don't profess Islam, so I don't actively celebrate Id (though I will passively if a Muslim friend invite me). I don't profess Christmas either, so guess what. Same thing.

I'm happy, no problems. I have my own holidays.

Millions of frozen Chinese Christmas turkeys are locked in the financial doldrums, victims of the credit squeeze far from thier ovens in the western christian lands. It's to be covered by warehouses full of war surplus Spam and tons of dehydrated pseudo cranberryettes.
