Canada is over twice the size of the EU in terms of area. It would certainly stick out like a sore thumb if it became a member.

Oh man I say it all the time. eh.
Maybe it's a regional thing? Though in the last decade I've been all over this country between Victoria and Montreal, and as far as I can recall have not heard anyone say it. Maybe it just doesn't register on my awareness. Or maybe it's just because I haven't met you yet, eh? :)

But population-wise we'd be about as influential as Belgium.

Canada's population is 34 million. Belgium's is 11 million. If Canada was a member of the EU it would be its seventh-largest Member State in terms of population out of 28 Member States in total - sandwiched between Poland (38 million) and Romania (19 million).

If you listen its there. Westerners don't even realize how often we say it until we think about it. The funny thing is, if you listen to Brits, you see exactly where we get it from... its just the Americans get so involved in the rest of the accent with the Brits, they don't notice the "eh".

Why join into the EU, when the EU has very little understanding of what Canada is? If Canada joined the EU than the EU would dictate to Canada what they should and shouldn't do.... They'll listen to Environmental Extremists and their baseless emotional BS than to factual statistical evidence and ban this and ban that with Canada.... they would tell Canada how they should run the oil sands.

They'd most likely even open up the Maritimes for European fishing boats to suck dry what little resources are left on our side of the Atlantic like they did back in the 90's.... which helped a lot with almost wiping out the Cod because they already wiped out their own fish stocks from over fishing.

Instead of bickering with one country over trade (The US) Canada would have to bicker with a bunch of little countries whom would most likely stack votes in their favour to screw Canada over at almost every turn.... and being a member of the EU, Canada would have to abide by it all.

We'd be shipping most of our resources to the EU, oil, fresh water, etc. and have little input on the matter.

Being not a part of the EU means Canada can set deals and trades on its own terms and not by the terms of everybody else across the pond..... nor does Canada have to be bound by their demands.

Canada is a resource rich land... joining any union, be that the US, EU or whoever, would mean a quick sapping of those resources.... and what would they care? they won't have to suffer the consequences like Canadians would.... they wouldn't have to see their country stripped of almost everything. They'd just have to sit thee and have those resources dropped at their door.

And bailouts??

Get used to those.

Britain has got one of the world's richest fishing grounds, and certainly the richest in Europe, in our North Sea waters. So you can see why Britain is such a huge asset to the EU. Thanks to the EU's Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) these fishing grounds are no longer considered to be just Britain's but as a resource to be shared out amongst all the EU's Member States.

As a result the EU gave vast amounts of cash to the Irish and Spanish for them to greatly increase the size of their fishing fleets and told them that they are able to enter British waters - the richest fishing grounds in Europe - to take our fish.

As a result, many British fishermen lost their jobs. Britain's once HUGE fishing fleet is - like her navy - now just a shadow of its former self and many fishermen are suffering after losing their jobs.

So one reason why the EU is against Britain leaving is because that would mean Britain would regain control of her own waters and stop the Irish, Spanish, French and others - with their increased fishing fleets partially paid for by the British taxpayer - entering OUR waters and taking OUR fish. These fish would no longer be a "shared EU resource" but would be ours, except the ones that Britain decided to export, of course.

Of course things like this are rarely mentioned by Britain's Europhile.

Canadian Europhiles should be aware of things like this before campaigning for Canada to join the EU.

Wouldn't you have to separate from the USA first?
Just kidding..

Na.. you guys are way to politically correct for Europe, you would result in political correctness overload trying to deal with all the European issues.
