You missed her point. Either way, she did say she didn't remember a terrorist act in Canada. So I have no idea why you are so upset about the issue.

I do not recall.

I'm certainly not upset about anything, but I'm pretty amused by your rush to her defence.

I don't recall any act of terrorism on US soil, ever.

Whatever. You seem to like nitpicking about little details off-topic just as much as Joe Potter.

I think you're upset.

I don't believe you.
BTW, if you were married, wouldn't you defend your spouse?

But, anyway, using terrorism as an argument against HS rail in Canada is pretty weak.

No kidding. Talk about caving to terrorists.

Besides, if we need something, we build it regardless of what terrorists think. Look at Weibo and his cohorts for example. We still build pipelines even though the bastards try to blow them up.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the pipeline thing. I guess there's been so many terrorist acts against us I forgot that one.

"I think it was YJ."

Indeed, I brought up the possibility - nay, the PROBABILITY - of terrorists taking aim at rail transportation in Canada. They did it in England and in Spain.

"I don't spoil the flavor of rum by adding that crap to it, but thanks."

Neither do I, rum or anything else. If you are not man enough to have your drink straight, you are not man enough to drink adult beverages.

I'd think that probability would be much lower than them taking a terrorist shot at a US rail system first. I don't think Canada is high priority to terrorists.

lol I don't think being a "man" hinges on how one prefers their drinks.

So, in talking about terrorism in Canada, I do have to plead ignorance of incidents other than the little bit that's impacted my area and my family members.

So, I went snooping around, and found an interesting article. For anyone wanting to know a bit more about the history of attacks on Canadian soil, I found it an enlightening read.

Terrorism

But I still don't think terrorism potential is any reason to stop doing what we need for our citizenry.

Thanks for that. People, and especially Americans, seem to think that 9/11 was the first case of international terrorism in North America; the Air India bombing was very much a Canadian event.

For all those " hundreds of terrorist acts" there sure hasn't been much damage in comparison to other countries.

Anyway, I still think if we developed high-speed rail things wouldn't be any worse terrorism-wise than they are now and high-speed rail would certainly be a distinctive benefit. Maybe even enough to pull Bombardier out of the red ink. lol

No, we sure haven't had many casualties. Sparse population probably helps with that.

And you're right... a train wouldn't be any worse terrorism wise than, say, holding the Olympics, or holding a sporting event, or, or,.... there are lots of ways to make more impact than hitting one above ground train.

Yep. And as far as our terrain and climate is concerned, Russia has rail as does Norway. Russia's rail seems to keep plugging along in spite of the lack of maintenance and funding and Russia's bigger than Canuckville by a factor of 1.5. I can't see why we couldn't have high-speed with a few modifications.

Some of you may find this interesting. Notice that Finland, Russia, and China all have decided high-speed rail is cool.

my grandaughter did a round trip by rail in russia last
spring, and she was disgusted, she said it was not kept
up at all, wasn't as clean as it should be, the sheets
were not fresh and clean. It was a day and a half each
way for her, and she couldn't wait till it was over.
