Americans are increasingly unhappy with Mr. Obama's handling of the economy - the number one issue in the country. According to Gallup, he gets a lousy 26% approval rating on the economy, 24% for his handling of the federal budget deficit and 29% for job creation. These are terrible numbers.


As if to confirm them, Morgan Stanley was out with a report this morning that says the United States is "dangerously close" to a recession in the next 6 to 12 months.


President Obama says he has a plan for job growth... but he's waiting until after Labor Day to tell us.
Why is he waiting? The unemployment rate is 9.1%. Do you suppose there are millions of Americans who would like to know how the government will create jobs now? Not after the President's vacation to Martha's Vineyard.

I am no fan of Obama, but the Republicans can take a fair share of the blame for the recent budgetary fiasco.........and it was a freaking joke.

The USA needs to stop increasing debt.....that requires BOTH deep, deep cuts and raising taxes.

Anything else is simply so stupid.

The left is kinda caught in a bind...If Obama has a Democrat challenger he would expend a lot of money fighting that challenge...

That's less money for him to fight the Republican contender that will finaly emerge..

Might as well challenge him, no one in this situation has much of a chance for re-election. The foolish bit about this is there isn't much that anyone can do right now to change the economy. What is there to do.. increase spending for large capital projects? Aren't they trying to put a lid on spending? Is he to reduce taxes? That doesn't work..it never has, and it certainly doesn't do much for reducing debt. It would be great if he was in Reagan's position and simply triple the national debt and decrease taxes, but neither are realistic in these times.

Now you are talking, Obama caused the divide this country is having now, always looking down upon his peasants. Telling us what must be done rather than consulting more with the people. Where does it even look like he cares what happens, right now the economic world going nuts and what is he doing, going on a 10 day vacation. Check how many vacations he has had in his 3 year job, bet he has been away on recreational trips for over 10 months. This man does not know how to hold a country together. Yes Democrats replace him in 2012 if you want to win.

I agree... the GOP cranked the debt high and the Democrats shot it higher. I personally believe that deep cuts should be made and THEN raise taxes. But the Democrats do not want deep cuts. There is so much waste in this country and so many so called entitlements.

And Warren Buffet... all Warren needs to do is write out a check to the government if he feels so strongly. It is very easy to do here in the US. I can walk into town hall with a $20 bill and say I want to donate it to the town. They will take it and give me a receipt too! It is very VERY easy to donate personal wealth to the government. No red tape... no long waits. That is one thing the US Govt made simple for obvious reasons. Every year at tax time you can check a box to be charged at a higher tax rate as well.

Seems the Iraq war had people pretty divided along political lines.

I think Americans in general put far too much trust and faith in their President, expecting he/she to deliver them from economic, societal & war misery. You'll put a new face in the office in 2012 and the cycle will repeat.

I cannot argue that, we are a faith based people in some form or another. That is how we started out, and for the most part have not gone the atheist route or given up on faith as fast as some other countries. The last time we were really divided about a war was Vietnam, every war had its doubters and sides, but Iraq did not bring down a government like Vietnam and the Civil rights revolution that accompanied it did. We do elect people in the remote hope that some sort of change will happen, so far not much.

Vietnam was also not fought hot on the heels of a horrendous attack on home soil. That makes a big difference. I'm sure many people were divided over Iraq too, but a lot of people were also scared and worried too. And not without cause either.

I think everyone hopes for some change and progress when they elect someone.

But I do have to say, watching an American election in progress is like watching Barnum and Bailey, it's a helluva show. It's all banners and balloons and rousing speeches, lol.

By contrast we have a show featuring Boring, Mundane, and Sleeping. That goodness they only last 6 weeks.

An excellent post! Have to wonder given the present state of the economy, etc. if a fellow Democrat would dare to take President Obama to task. Wondering if some Democrats are actually thinking of abandoning ship but remain quiet as to projet a united front.
