New laws would allow the government to revoke the citizenship of naturalized citizens under certain circumstances. But the suspected shooter was born in Canada. His citizenship couldn't be revoked, and I don't know why it should be. The idea seems to come from a visceral nativism. The idea that surely potential terrorists have an otherness to them. They are immigrants or the children of immigrants and there's some kind of illegitimacy to their citizenship that needs to be proven beyond actually having citizenship. It's weird. If we had the evidence to revoke citizenship under the new laws, we'd have the evidence to charge them with a crime.

My own personal preference is to declare war on ISIS.
I mean literally, with an act of parliament, not figuratively.
That makes Canadian citizens that work for the advancement of ISIS guilty of treason, no matter where they were born.

Why are we messing around with our security?

It took us five years to win WW II.

Time to break out the big guns and finish this nonsenses.

yeah, but you never hear about militant scientists blowing up anything, killing anyone...the most is they just soapbox loudly. That's acceptable behaviour...sort of.

Turn them to science.....

Well they did give us the ability to wipe out all life on earth with nuclear weapons.

I'd prefer that to this vague 'war on terror.'

CSIS, RCMP have had budget cuts for years. This shortfall can be laid at the present Govt's feet.
New laws regarding conditions for them to be free, akin to a security risk.
It would be nice to let them go but then they kill more, bring in more recruits.
Best thing is increased surveillance of these radical, conditions to be met- security risk- danger to society - Charter can be overridden 5 years at a time.
Strict reporting and parole conditions.
But to ensure that the State does not go bangers overboard as Govts do with new powers, a court would be needed. Similar to the one for security certificates or use the same bunch, all have been cleared by CSIS.

They claim to be a state. So if we were to recognize them we could then declare war on them.
Born in Canada in 1980 something. You declaring war on Canada? By that same logic the Brit that is whacking off heads means the UK should be invaded.
