‘Sharknado 2′ gets ready to take a bite out of Big Apple
The Syfy network has confirmed that Sharknado 2 is on the way and this time the action will take place in New York City.
“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamouring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun,” Thomas Vitale, Syfy VP, tells Variety.
The SyFy channel disaster film starred former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as a pair of unlikely heroes who end up saving Santa Monica from a series of shark-filled tornadoes.
The first Sharknado took Twitter by storm before it aired last week, with stars like Olivia Wilde and 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander tweeting about it.
“If Ian Zeiring (sic) is not in a shark movie. It’s not a good shark movie,” Friedlander tweeted.
Reid, whose career – let’s face it – peaked with American Pie, told TMZ she was game for a sequel. “This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it’s almost so bad that it’s good.”
Syfy is also giving Sharknado fans the opportunity to give the sequel a subtitle by submitting their ideas at @SyfyMovies using the hashtag #Sharknado.
The first film came with the tagline: “Enough said.”
