Canada not ready for driverless cars, Senate report says - Home | Quirks & Quarks with Bob McDonald | CBC Radio

Canadian Senate has decided that Canada is not ready for driverless cars, which is a shame, because they are going to save many lives and much money, and they are coming and nothing is going to stop them.

Here in BC our car insurance cartel has been shaken by the huge increase in costs due to driver inattention (ie cell phones). They are talking about massive premium increases - and this company used to post huge surpluses.

We can no longer afford to let idiots drive cars.

What I want to know is do I have to pay for insurance if my car is self driving?

What about if I don't even own it, because the idea is to have thousands of these cars simply working like uber. You need one you call for it, it tales you where you want to go and then waits for the next call. And you can watch all the porn you want without endangering everyone else on the road.

The automobile as a cultural expression is changing. It is becoming a utilitarian thing, which is what it started as.

and dhow are drivellers cars a "priority"........when there are other issues that are imperative to deal with??

That is the least of our concerns. Let's resolve items like NAFTA and the BC/ALBERTA dispute first.

Just call up a vehicle when you need one and it will take you where you want to go. This would be an enormous boost to seniors who are isolated and no longer drive, or people with mobility issues.
My god man, they just invented the taxi service.

I dissagree. Had to drive through Nanaimo for work a couple of daze last week and I swear more than half the cars were driverless. Also newer cars don't have signal lights and having an N on the back of a car means speed limits don't apply.

Ready or not that technology is coming and frankly it can't come soon enough.

The vast majority of you have no idea how to drive and should not be given the keys to a car.

I would say that transportation is a major priority and force for social transformation. Building cities and infrastructure to accommodate the automobile was hugely important in the 20th century. Cars revolutionized the way we live. Granted, driverless cars aren't a big as the car itself, but they would do away with a lot of problems governments have dealt with while accommodating cars.

Streets and high traffic routes existed long before the automobile and rail.

They were designed for the wagon.
