New England Yankees have used seaweed in their chowders since time immemorial - does anyone know if Canadians in the Maritimes use it as well?

When I was growing up in Brooklyn we ate a lot of seafood but seaweed definitely was not one of them.

I used to watch Beany & Cecil every week - sure was funny. Had one of those Beanycopter caps and greatly treasured it - always imagined myself being able to fly with it. Dishonest John (a Murgatroid character) was one of my cartoon heroes.
