United Nations

Thank you - good reporting.

I'll avoid listening to the broadcasts until the truth is out such as you have given us.

I live in Montreal and I'd be VERY, VERY surprised if this was an incident related to language... If it was, it shouldn't be considered as a symptom of a social problem related to language... This would be an isolated act and not something to be "worried" about in terms of political and linguistic tensions in Montreal. Montreal is doing pretty good on that issue trust me...

So it's not a gender issue, like Montreal massacure, probably not a languge issue. Thank you for the perspective, I have heard good things about Montreal, but I was not sure if Languge issues were a big deal, to the degree that they would cause something like this.

I hate waiting for answers. I hope this does not turn out to be random, we may never know why they did it. We really need answers, but I also do not want to jump to any wrong conclusions.

I am still surfing for any more info.

Interesting point. If they were dark skined and middle eastern people would be thinking terrorist attack. I did not think about it from that angle but good point.

People have been speaking about the Montreal massacure, do you think they were french students upset with the college? It's apparently one of the only English speaking colleges.

I would be very surprized if it were language-related as well. My bet would be the attackers were English-speaking, from what we've heard. If it is NOT political, then it is probably an attack by disgruntled people on their own folk.............which I doubted at first, because of the multiple gunmen angle.

Gee, I wonder what Michael Moore thinks?

He'll be up there in a flash trying to tie K-Mart into the gun buys (again).

Yeah.

Every time something like this happens I think of Moore stridently proclaiming how superior Canada is with its tough gun control.......

BTW, I feel I should apologize to some extent for the title of this thread......it now appears there was one gunman, and the attack was simply one of those...........an act by some loony trying for notoriety after death......strange.

No terrorism here, at least not the political kind.

I was fooled by early reports of as many as four gunmen. Turns out plainclothes police waving guns caused some of that confusion.

I saw the story break while I was having lunch - there were three different ones going on simultaneously becuase they were interviewing eye witnesses who were hysterical.

No problem - it takes hours to iron out the details...and you gave the heads up....so others could do their own checking.

I sure don't know what some of you guys are smoking. There was only 1 killed (the sole shooter) and about 20 injured.

Also, one or more shooters would still be classified as terror for the people at the college.

For most of the afternoon it was reported there were multiple shooters. 20 shot, no fatalities? And from reports he was shooting people on the ground at close range, head and neck shots......a .22 rifle perhaps?

Your last statement is very true.

True this is something that you can not legislate, you just have to work out the underlying issues at to why he wanted to kill himself in such a public way and try to take out others.

RE: School shooting in Mo

notice the way the media report the highest possible death tolls every time. I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately avoided hearing the exact figures so they could make them up for longer and have more of a sensation.

Do you remember when 9/11 went on, people were saying the death toll would be at least 7000.

I, of course know no one there where this happened. Nonetheless, I'm sorry that this happened to you guys up there. I live in Denver at the moment and I know this city still cringes everytime something like this happens. So for what its worth, for my part, I support you guys, and I hope the rest of the wounded people make it through ok.

I avoided Canadian news stations since this happened. Sure enough I turn on the local news this morning and the exploition of this tragedy for all it's worth has begun. 'Experts' popping out of the woodwork and an industry growing like dung-happy mushrooms smothering rational thought. This tragedy will be milked by every special interest group to push their agenda. The news media is gleeful and salivates at the thought of actually having a story to exploit to fill some of its 24 hour, 7 days a week anemic all news networks.
