We no longer have to worry about that Petros.

Now that we have the benevolent wisdom of the Liberal philosophy that no student be allowed to fail or ever come in last, I suppose that we can assume that they are all learning.

I don't know what school system you deal with, but kids still fail here.

LOL

Well if our schools where any good I could have been very diffrent =)

Your writing skills are, quite honestly, on par with what is printed every day in our national newspapers, so don't denigrate yourself.

A wise Conservative once said: "Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?"

Well is they? I'd likes know cuz a man is supposed to always be thinkin’ about stuff about his family and for to make himself to do things that are gonna gooder the family up-around, gooder it up. And that is what is a man.

Never misunderestimate what kids can achieve whether it's rocket appliance or being President of America. They can learnt on their own and get their deservament and pass the minumums of life with flying carpets.

Petros you is one rural mofo with city big ponderins! Gooder it up real good now. Gooder it up propah. lol

That is a very interesting observation; that possibility had never really entered my mind, certainly not to the extent that you suggest... That said, I can certainly see the impact.

Unless the tax rules have changed in the last number of years, I believe that you are mistaken in suggesting that the cost of tuition/fees at a private school can be written-off.

Actually the way the law works is quite simple. Most private schools in Alberta are religious based and as such the tuition fees are listed as religious donations which are tax deductible.

What Canada really lacks is a solid technical school program similar to the one that is used in Germany. In that system students who are not interested in purely academic programs can move into tech schools and get hands on instruction in a variety of technical programs. This is similar to what is offered in tech schools in Canada like NAIT and SAIT, but it takes place about three years earlier. Students who graduate from such programs tend to be very highly skilled. Not only that, they are paid a wage as they participate in the program, giving the students further incentive to participate in such programs. This gives Germany one of the most highly trained tech workforces in the work. In Canada many students waste three years of their high school taking programs in which they have not the slightest interest. It is a huge was of tax dollars and a huge waste of resources to force unwilling teenagers to take programs they will probably never use; especially given Canada's shortage of skilled workers.

Alberta public schools are graduating kids out with welder's apprenticeships, most of the cosmetics training, etc. Sure, they're upstart programs and still limited, but it's a step in the right direction to start giving the kids who want it some trades and technical training.

Sorry.. There is no tax deduction in Alberta for the tuition/fees in private schools, religious or not.

It is not a tax deduction for education. It is considered a charitable deduction to a religious institution. Nice little tax loophole isn't it?

I am well aware of such programs. My point is that students can take three years of such courses in high school and still not have their journeyman's certificate. Instead they have to go to tertiary institutions to complete their training. This seems like a bit of a wasted effort in that if we followed the German model they would be fully trained technicians upon graduating from high school.

The way it works, if you'd ever studied mathematics plus economics and the exponential feedback effect of income and investments, is that the system will implode unless sometimes people walk out and demand back some of the money they are making.

Near the turn of the previous century people demanded, and got, a share of the wealth industrialization was creating. Inadvertently they caused there to be a purchasing class to keep the industrial machine going.

Now with globalization combined with billions of Indians and Chinese doing all the work, the option is to become green farmers feeding the world, surrounded by the greatest defense force ever, never again to be used for violent capitalist ventures, selling clean food to billions of people from the best continent on the planet for growing food, and the national enemy is Monsanto.
