Failure to finish. Again. 29 all, going to overtime.

And failure to finish again. Lions 35-32 Roughriders.

Riders are leaving themselves a pretty damn big hill to climb.

I agree with Kreskin, we were the better team. That said, once again I have to point to penalties, especially those taken at key times in the game, that cost us dearly. We took over 90 yards worth and that is simply not acceptable. I must say though that Lions were just as guilty as our guys - at one point there were 4 penalties on one play alone. Sheesh.

Weston took over from Ryan very nicely. Loved the TD and the 2-point convert. Allen had his best game so far, though he better put something on his gloves so he doesn't drop anymore passes. Our defence was pretty solid but they also took some stupid frickin penalties.

Paul McCallum was spot on with every kick. I wasn't thrilled when I heard he was back with us, but he has been good on every kick thus far, so welcome back Paul.

When I heard that Ryan was going to be out it really made me wonder who the numbskull was that put him back in the game after that hellacious fall.

Our record is 0 for 3 now - wonderful start to the season. I keep seeing flashes of brilliance from our guys, I know they have what it takes to be a winning team. I just hope they get all the pieces together sooner rather than later.

I agree completely. It's incredibly frustrating. And as you say, the mental mistakes are killing us. But we're past early-season clumsiness now. Time to put it all together and go on a 15-0 streak.

The game had very few traditional football mistakes. It was a clean hard fought game yet once again the referees became the focal point. I think the league has gone completely batty. They should get penalties out of the game rather than put more in. The argument always becomes " well, the players need to play without breaking the rules". Ya sure, in the 100+ year history of the league it hasn't happened. Don't hold your breath for rules not getting 'broken'. What they need to do is create a set of rules that everyone will play by, so that fans can watch football and not 60 minutes of flags. Get rid of that dumb no-yards garbage. Lighten up on the defensive coverage and even the contacting of quarterbacks. Drop the reviewable pass interference nonsense. If a guy grabs the collar but lets go without yanking the guy to the turf don't freakin call it a horsecollar. Allow people to complain about interference calls. Etc etc. Just stop the **** calling penalties for everything. It's bloody nuts. Whoever is running this league needs to get their head(s) examined.

yeah, I agree about the penalties, don't take so many, and don't call so many, one thing will help the other.

I skipped and watched the game along with the blue jays game, but did see the OT, very exciting, being very

carefull certainly didn't pay off for sask. coach.

thought lulay played great, he's back, his way of play will spread around the team, will give confidence

to all.

Penalties mean stoppage of play which means the leaugue and TSN can squeeze in 15 more commercials per game. Adding new rules to sell ad time is pathetic.

What bothers me is that the new rules seem to be taken from the NFL, the clearest example being the no-chuck-beyond-5-yards rule. That's designed to push the game toward more passing, which sucks because CFL is a game much better constructed for running, with the wider field giving the speedy more chance to get outside and the defenders having more real estate to cover.

Listen, I love the NFL. Absolutely love it. My collection of Ravens jerseys is somewhere north of a thousand dollars. But CFL is a different game with different strategies and tactics. A huge part of the success of Americans in Canada is how quickly and how well they get on top of the differences and quit trying to play "funny NFL" and embrace CFL.

Trying to turn it into a bush-league NFL is a terrible idea. Even if you're successful, you've taken an exciting, engaging game and turned it into "almost as good as NFL." Canada deserves better. CFL fans deserve better.

So, I wore my John Chick jersey today, and I had the following conversation a dozen times:

Is that a Philadelphia Eagles jersey?

No.

Is it a college jersey?

No.

What is it?

Saskatchewan Roughriders. Canadian Football League.

Oh, you mean like soccer?

No, I mean like football. Some of the rules are different, but it's 90% the same as NFL.

In Canada?

Yep, that country up thataways (pointing north).

I thought they played hockey in Canada.

They do. They also play football. And baseball. And rugby. And soccer. And basketball. And several other sports. For that matter, they're currently hosting the PanAm games, and doing very well.

The what?

The PanAm games. Like the Olympics, only just for North and South America. With medals and all.

How many medals does China have?

*sigh*

Hey, your jersey says "Chick" on it.

Yes, it does. John Chick is the superstar defensive end for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The what?

Roughriders.

They have defensive ends?

Yup.

Like in football?

*sigh*

I was wondering if you were talking to Americans or Chinese when they asked how many medals China had - one might think, if they were Americans, they might be a tad more interested in the medal count for the US - who are doing very well at the Games.

Important game for us tonight, Tec. As the talking heads keep saying, the first loss was almost unavoidable when DD went out but the next two were more mental errors by players. Tonight they need to show us that they can play good solid (almost) penalty free football and beat the Lions into the turf. Corey still has 76% support from the fans - according to a poll done by CTV news Regina. That number may drop sharply if we can't pull off a win tonight.

GO RIDERS, GO!

Nah, I think most Chinese would grasp that China isn't in the PanAm games. Americans, on the other hand, assume that the U.S. is number 1, and are obsessed with whoever is number 2. Used to be the Sovs, now it's the Chinese.

Absolutely CRITICAL game! And a chance to get some of our own back from the Lions. 0-4 would be ugly, indeed. It's 10:00 my time, and I'm all geared up to watch it on ESPN3.

So far, no good. The defense was ineffective, but the offense was ineffective.

Time to play some football, boys.

OK, this blows. So far the Riders' best two plays were a penalty and a punt.

Wakey wakey!
