Actually, those "8 bombers" - Bears, to be precise - flew just at the edge of Canadian airspace. There were 12 along Alaska too. Ivan's just letting us know He's back ... and we said hello. I suspect the Russian flag was like an Illukshuk - meaning "Kilroy was Here". Really, I don't suppose it's so much worry over Uncle Sam laying any claim as much as it is fretting over them dumping garbage and spilling stuff. Have you ever watched American tourists? What terrible litterbugs!

Bears are bombers...Bear was/is a NATO desi.

Yup...they are letting us know they are around. The funny thing is now they are letting YOU (as in Canada) know they are around too.

Ah Wolf...I've watched Canadian tourists recently in Las Vegas. These three chaps were loud and obnoxious... and claimed loudly they owned every bar they enter. Sort of ruined the atmosphere of the place until they were tossed to the cheers of the patrons.

I thought I already said that....

They did before too. Why do you suppose all those radar lines were built across OUR north and the Canadian half of NORAD is in Canada? See ... it's really not all about you (a collective you)

Ahh ... here we go with the "Well-they-do-it-too" defense. I'll bet those obnoxious Canadians would toss their Timmies cups all over the Passage too. Why don't you just stick with the context? It's so unbecoming to see a Marine go schoolyard.

As far as Russian oil claims go (because we just know that's what drives the American Dream):

"...The Law of the Sea Treaty is the world's primary means of settling disputes over exploitation rights and navigational routes in international waters. Russia and 152 other countries have ratified it.

But the US has refused, arguing it gives too much power to the UN. If the US does not ratify it, Russia's bid for the Arctic's energy wealth will go unchallenged, proponents believe. ..."

Well your the one that decided to insinuate that all Americans were "litter bugs". So why should I hold off on painting all Canadian tourists has drunken idiots who can only manage to get plastered and tossed from a bar to the cheers of every other tourist. Talk about getting off track.

So if the US does not ratify it Russia's claims will go unchallenged? How so? Didn't they ratify it? So much for treaties! UN mandates and treaties are worth just as much as the paper they are written on... almost nothing.

They ratified it...you ratified it...they laid their flag down (so very easily and un-UN like)...challenge them.

umm ... where did you see the word ALL? That's your insinuation.

Did you know that when the series NYPD Blue was taped, set crews - American set crews - had to truck in garbage to give the streets of Toronto the New York look?

Live in your bubble Eag. De Nile is your friend....;-) And crowd the pines with billboard signs from sea to oily sea....

I suppose there's some consolation in knowing that Russia is worse at dumping its garbage and leaving it lay.

Wolf- "Have you ever seen American tourists? What litterbugs."

Well I didn't see you say "some" American tourists. I didn't see you say "a few" American tourists.

It's just like me saying "The New York Yankees stink". I don't mean some, or a few...I am saying the whole team. So were you.

Ok. I see you have again went off track such as you accused me. So NY has dirty streets...is it done by American litter-bugs or New Yorkers? Cram millions of people in a small space...you're going to get litter! Now I don't live in NY and my town looks NOTHING like the streets of New York. But maybe I'll go put a tourist hat on and litter.

Live in your bubble Eag. De Nile is your friend....;-) And crowd the pines with billboard signs from sea to oily sea....

Yawn. My bubble. How original.

Eag.... Do me a favour and leave the analysis to they who are better qualified. If you choose to read negative between the lines, it's a reflection of your own character ... not mine.

So I guess my analysis hit the spot. I figured it would show you how very immature "lone wolf" :)lol:) can be when he is unable to debate. How a topic of Canadian's Artic sovreignty can lead "lone wolf" :)lol:) to calling Americans "litter bugs".

No...not too many times have I heard that...it just makes me yawn.

Yeah, yeah... Was the analogy really THAT far over your head? Litterbug ... as in nonchalance, indifferent, careless.... Not all, but it just takes a couple of oil leaks, flushed bilges, discarded garbage, flushed toilets (I assume you have heads on those tubs) to make a mess. Exxon Valdez come to mind?

Have a nice day ... and don't quit your day job. As a headshrink, you suck.

US warship reaches Georgian port

A US warship has arrived in the Georgian port of Batumi carrying the first delivery of aid supplies by sea.
Russian forces are still in control of the military port of Poti, to the north of Batumi, after Moscow withdrew most of its combat troops from the country.

The USS McFaul is the first of three ships to arrive in Georgia
Meanwhile, a train carrying fuel has exploded after hitting a mine near Gori, Georgia's interior ministry said.
A huge plume of black smoke could be seen across the area and witnesses said the force of the blast had forced some of the train's wagons off the tracks.

He, Interior Minister, suggested the stockpile or the train track could have been mined by the Russian forces. He said there had been no casualties.

Goods nowadays have to be delivered by warships!

Always and steadfastly blame the Russians!

How much of coincidence is that? Not a month ago, Georgia was whining about Russian railroad maintenance workers and claiming they were soldiers. Apparently, the tracks haven't been maintained in a long time. Was there a boom ... or did the track just collapse - like CN's do from time to time?

Coincidence? Track just collapsed? It stated in the article...
Meanwhile, Georgia said a train full of fuel was blown up by a mine near Gori.
Sounds to me someone laid the mine on the tracks. BUT, who knows for sure? It could be just false information. Maybe the Georgian soldiers did it themselves, but the Russians get blamed.

A trainload of fuel went boom. Sparks fly in train wrecks and brake parts are hot.

"...He suggested the stockpile or the train track could have been mined by the Russian forces. He said there had been no casualties...."

Could have....

No casualties? Normally, the motive power is the first to get there. That puts an engineer and a conductor right over the spot. Mines aren't selective.

Until the wreck is examined, nobody knows - they speculate. That's how misinformation is born. If the tracks are in bad shape, it's just as possible the train derailed.

unrelated to the rest of your post:

With $2 of electronics mines can actually get pretty selective, and often are so they can get past all the ingenious anti-mine technology.

couple a few smart mines with the dumb ones and nothing is safe. But otherwise yes, your post is correct.

Sure, let me know what you want the mine to do and I can probably design the simple circuit and send you a circuit drawing if you want (providing I can find all my old cad software from college)

Anything to do with metal detecting, heat, weight or light sensing and any kind of time delay (to get past things designed to detonate mines early)

I honestly skipped all the previous posts..went straight to the last one, and posted this.

Somehow, this is the US's fault right?

Typical American response.... too lazy to look at existing details and information and jump to any conclusion you can think up in 5 seconds.

Just for that.... yes.... it is the US's fault, just like everything else on the planet is the US's fault.... there, happy?

Somehow, someway, everyones moral compas has been thrown out the window, and hatred of GW Bush has allowed everyone to overlook the fact that the (leaders of) Russians have been nasty folks since Ivan the Terrible, correct?

Incorrect, as you shine through your limited understanding of the situation, due to not reading what has already been supplied..... this situation was started by the hand of Georgia.... if you want to trace it all the way back as to why Georgia acted like a tyrant nation, you might see the US's involvement in this..... but the responsibility of this whole situation has occured based on Georgia's actions.... not Russias'.

Georgia started the fight, like a pompus bully.... Russia beat the livin' she'ite out of them and sent them crying back to their bigger bully, the US..... now it's all the Evil Russia's fault?

Get a clue.

You're in no position to talk about "Nasty Folks"

No matter that the Russians started kicking the Georgians asses back in 1921 and continued to kick said ass until 1991, gave em a 17 year break, and are now back in that ass...

They wouldn't have had to kick their ass, if Georgia didn't try and bully a province that no longer wanted to be a part of Georgia, nor was under control of Georgia for 18 years or so.

Typical American as usual.... ignore all other facts, except the ones that suit your skewed and twisted views of the world.

In some way, ex - KGB people are now justified in their rape of Georgia because 9/11 was an inside job or something, right?

Wrong, get your damn facts straight....

Anyways, now I'll go back to the beginning and see if I was wrong...

That would be a good idea.

SUUUUUURE. Talk about a Tonkin Gulf Incident!

"They started it! We had to defend ourselves!"

A former Soviet Commie talking about Western Propaganda. Isn't that sweet.

Is that supposed to mean that you don't think there's such a thing as Western Propaganda?

Meanwhile they are sending bombers into Canada's airspace and laying flags on the sea floor claimed by Canada. Hey...maybe Gorby will be writing an article about how Canada started something in the Artic.

Once again, the US is doing similar things.... hypocritical.

Heck...I'll believe him!

Better look out Canada and start watching your back door!

We've been watching all our doors recently..... I sure as heck don't trust Russia or the US, but Russia has more brownie points in my books then the US. Trying to shift concentration on another country in spite of your own nation's failures and corruption isn't going to make a difference.

Might makes right too.

I like to make bluster about it because some Canadians think they are so respected and admired.

Most Canadians don't give a rats arse what others think.

Then the Ruskies drop a flag on their claim as a challenge.

Which we don't care about, because it's not an official manner of claiming property, just like you guys placing your flag on the moon..... it's not yours.

They worry too much about the US. I do not think you need to watch us as we aren't laying claim.

Laying symbolic claim and invading other nations are two different threats... one's greater then the other.

We are watching them as always but they are the ones flexing muscle in the Artic...not us.

This topic has nothing to do with the artic, where are you going with this?

Just as one Canadian pointed out here...the Russians recently flew 8 bombers into Canadian Artic airspace so I suppose the Russians aren't as clear as you might like them to be.

Neither are you guys..... we're not so black and white with our attention as you may like to think.
