The Republican Presidential nomination campaign is getting uglier. The Santorum campaign has injected the story of Romney's family vacation in 1983 into the campaign. Appaently, the dog carrier was strapped to the roof of a packed station wagon for a twelve hour trip from Boston to Canada. During the trip, the dog got sick, and some excretia dripped onto the back window to the great horror of the Romney boys in the back. Romney pulls the car over, washes it and the dog down, and continued on his way to the cottage on Lake Huron.

Mitt Romney’s dog-on-the-car-roof story still proves to be his critics’ best friend - The Washington Post

Gotta love National Lampoon politics....

I conservatively estimated at least 5 replies before someone mentioned National Lampoon, Though Chevy Chase kind of looks like more like Santorum than Romney.

I thought all politics was National Lampoon!

You mean this stuff is supposed to be serious?!?

I don't think Santorum's campaign is treating it like a comedy, or Gingrich for that matter, or Obama:

Romney made it perfectly clear that the kennel he kept his dog in and transported on the roof of his station wagon was windproof and perfectly safe in every possible way.

You can see almost every day people with dogs driving with the dog hanging out the window, vulnerable to be hit by anything that might be flying in the air. Romney`s dog in the kennel is far safer than the dogs exposed to irresponsible, but sanctimonious dog owners who let their dogs poke their heads out of their cars and take chances on their dogs getting hit by flying dust, air-borne particles or just the wind. I am sure they would be just as happy to their kids to be just as happy and just as vulnerable as their pets. Yeah, right!

It is real responsible when the AMERICAN President ignores all the American breeds of dogs and picks a Portugese Water Dog.

Trying to add to the comedy I see. You're not as practiced apparently

George W. Bush had Scottish terriers and an English springer spaniel. Clinton had a Labrador retriever. George HW Bush had an English springer spaniel. Reagan had a golden retriever, a cavalier king, a Bouvier, a Siberian husky, an Irish setter, and a Belgian sheepdog.

None of those are American breeds. In fact the nearest you could arguably say that any President recently had an American breed was LBJ, who had a mixed breed dog. For pure breeds you have to go all the way to Theodore Roosevelt, who owned a Chesapeake Bay retriever.

It's seditious, treasonous, preposterous!

Yes and it also opens up a new avenue for political discussion that have nothing to do with politics! Brilliant! Just what politics needs! More diversion!

And my memory is a little fuzzy. What did Nixon own again? ;)
