Nobody is claiming that a mayor can never have a drink, but a mayor shouldn't be getting plastered and making an *** of himself in public or at work.

Ford has constantly proven that he can't have a drink without routinely making an *** of himself publicly.
No argument there

How do you figure that? He has constantly lied about what he is. He lies a lot more than the average politician, he is just really bad at it so you can always see through it.

He says he is not a celebrity, but then he flies down to LA trying to get into the Oscars, spends the whole time posing for pictures on the strip, and then goes on Jimmy Kimmel.

He spent a year lying about his drug use and attacking other people over it, then admitted that it was all true from the start.

He has constantly said he is not an alcoholic, says that he quit drinking, and he couldn't stop even for a few months. He claims that he is in his office to return phone calls, then stumbles out blind drunk.

The guy says that he supports kids and families, yet he constantly votes against any bill that provides support for kids and families.

Actually we are talking about two different things here. But we should get a couple of things straight.............We know Ford drinks from time to time quite often making a fool of himself. What we don't know is if he is an alcoholic. Same with the drugs, we don't know that he's addicted. The point I was trying to make is basically what you see is what you get, he's not particularly sneaky. What you call lying, he may considers the answer is no one's business. Actually it can be argued that he does support kids as he was active in their sports. Ford has enough bad points with scraping up more.

This should be in purple right? You can't possibly be serious? He drinks from time to time? He might not be an alcoholic? He might not be addicted?

We are speaking here of a public figure. One who is supposed to govern a city not some guy who works on a factory line....who by the way would have had his azz fired for this type of behavior.

He's not sneaky?...he is a fuking liar...... sneaky... sneaky would be a step up. You think people need to scrape up more points against him??????????????? WTF....he hands the points to people...you have lost your mind about this guy. You have defended him from the get go. There is no defending him. It just sounds lame.

If he was your son I could understand the emotional attachment and demonstrated blindness but otherwise...I don't get it.

Whatever your definition of our business is, he lies at every level. During his trip to LA, he claimed he was there to promote the film industry in Toronto, though nobody from the Toronto Film Office had any idea he was doing this. He didn't meet with anyone regarding the film industry.

He portrays himself as an average guy, but he has million of dollars in family money and never worked for anyone other than his dad.

The whole football thing is nice, but his job as mayor is larger than just his personal football team. He couldn't even keep that above board since he constantly used his office staff and budget to fund his personal team, and was eventually fired for making constant derogatory comments about the kids on his team. His attitude was to always belittle them and then portray himself as their saviour. Meanwhile, he routinely voted against evidenced based programs that support kids city wide.

I didn't say anything about being a drug addict. I said he lied about his drug use, which is an objective fact at this point. To make matters worse, not only did he lie about it, but he attacked the professional credibility of all of the people who reported the truth. Attacking others to protect yourself is a low as it gets.

When it comes to alcohol, we have seen very clearly that he has a problem with alcohol. He said he wanted to stop drinking, but he couldn't stop. At the most basic level, we know that when he drinks it causes a lot of negative things for him, yet he continues to do so.

We know from the police surveillance that he is actually very sneaky. He had meetings with criminals in parking lots and had criminals perform dead drops in his car. He just lies and lies and lies until he is caught, then says it doesn't matter.

I don't think I've ever defended him per se, more just trying to stick to facts and not get carried away with emotions.

facts...no the facts are clear JLM... this has nothing to do with emotion. The only emotion I now see about Rob is people limping along trying to defend despicable public behaviour or choosing to ignore what it truly means.

How people view the facts is an individual choice. If he were working for you I'm certain those facts would be crystal clear.

Haters gotta hate!
lol... it's a soooooong

drinkers gonna drink....drug addicts gonna sniff....

OK Sal, you've convinced me. I've always known he's not acting as befits a mayor of a few million people, I just didn't want to denigrate a man who needs help. Apparently quite a few people speak quite highly of him, who know him a lot better than I do. I trust you wisdom. -:)

Ok you and Sal have me convinced. I'll remove him from my list of people recommended for Mayor of Toronto!

I don't know who these "quite a few people are"... anyone who is anybody has moved on in order to salvage their career. No one is denigrating him more than he has denigrated and abused himself. There is a point when supporting someone's behaviour is nothing more than enabling. Many people enabled Ford for far too long. That is it's own problem both for him and the people who did it. If you want to know who really supports him...look for the agenda or lack there of.

Ask yourself this...who would want such a person at the helm? Who?

I read up on John Tory as I did not like him. Changed my mind.

Most people were very supportive of him keeping his job, but taking some time away to get help. At a certain point, if he wont accept help he at least has to be prevented from hurting everyone else.

He seems very good at going out and getting small things fixed for individuals, so that has ingratiated him with a lot of people.

Pretty much everyone who has had to work with him to get actual mayoral work done has left his side though. He is a deeply dysfunctional person who really is incapable of handling higher level stuff expected of the mayor.

Yep, he's probably a prime example of the "Peter Principle".
