Like force... what a frustrating legal concept. Who wants to stop and make sure they're using 'like force' against a burglar in the off chance that the burglar can best you with 'like force'. I've been at the back door with a knife in hand upon hearing an intruder before. Luckily it was my husband and I didn't have to test my skills out, but, I certainly wouldn't have stopped, had it been a burglar, to check and see if he had a knife too, before I stuck it in his gut.

The problem with that is that you might be the fool that brings a knife to a gunfight.

Bottom line- when you break into someone's house for nefarious reasons, whatever happens to you is deserved.

Proportional force must match the level of force you are facing. Ya right, a person
enters your home and you are to stand there very calm and determine, how much
force you should use. Maybe one should ask questions.
Excuse me Mr Burglar are you armed?
Have you done this before?
Have you ever killed a resident in his home before?

There are likely others. I think the time has come to make sure they can not get a
jury that would find the residents of the home guilty.

I've done a bit (a small bit, and recently, to be honest) of reading on this, and if you
ever end up in the situation of being in the aftermath of this situation, request to
have your fate decided by a jury and not just a single judge.

Well it would be impossible to judge matching force. That's what I meant, me, all 5'3" of me, against an average sized unarmed male, I wouldn't stand a chance. I'd need some kind of weapon.

The hell with it, I'll brain him with a hammer. Or the cast iron frying pan, that's got some heft to it. Deal with the fallout later I guess.

you play golf?? A nine iron with a good follow thru, just shuts down all sorts of arguments. Better if you play baseball and have a ball and a BAT!!:violent1:...............HAMMER'S good though.

Despite what you see on tv, most people when in serious pain will not be able to aim and fire accurately. So your best defence is to inflict massive pain as soon as possible on your attacker.

Breaking the kneecaps, a baseball bat to the face, those sorts of things. Hollywood is all well and good, but the reality is that after getting a baseball bat to the face, it's unlikely that your attacker will be coherent enough to harm you, while you get in a second and / or third blow.

Face, then wrists, then knees. Break every bone that you can.

I wouldn't wait either.

If some guy broke into my place unarmed, I would not be a match for him. I'd need a weapon to protect myself, be it a sharp item like a knife or a blunt object. So would that be considered "not like force"?

I keep a can of bear spray on hand for varmints and have heard it works well on humans too. Have to admit it wouldn't be much help if the intruder had a gun though.
