Yanno what? I think it is!! I did exactly as suggested, and I did have some water at the base of it the next day. I think the knobby thing that sets the temp in the freezer is a bit wonky - but so far, no more puddles in the fridge!

Thanks alot for that advice - probably saved me a goodly chunk of money to have someone come in and tell me to do that.

So uhhh where shall I send the high heels? ;-)

A couple things you could add to your tool kit:

A one size fits all wrench (a pair of vise grips) and a multi-tip screwdriver. * These along with your spike-heeled open toes you should be able to fix anything........Well, almost anything....

* Maybe a small hammer for bigger jobs..............:p

/sigh.

Juan, Juan Juan...

I'm about to incur the wrath of women everywhere for divulging the following so please do not ever mention my name as the source of this info:

It is every woman's mission in life to be able to complete any household repair asked of her with no more than a set of heels (for small nails), a cast iron frying pan (for big nails), a butter knife (for screws), salad tongs ( a multi-use item - for hard to reach things, for icky things we don't want to actually touch, for prying.... too many uses to list - an invaluable resource, tongs are!), and of course, the universally acclaimed roll of duct tape (for everything else).

Succumbing to the temptation to buy implements actually designed to do a specific job would implicate us in much more complex repair jobs... there is a method to the madness yanno!

Yeah but.......How come my wife always has my vise grips? I have probably fifty screwdrivers (Sale at Canadian Tire) and my wife always has the only ones that fit anything. I tell ya it's all part of a plot.....8O

lolllll I hate to be the one to tell ya Juan... she's not using the vise grips for repair jobs - you see, men's tools have more uses than the obvious: Is the constant absence of your favorite vice grips driving you crazy? If so then as far as she's concerned, mission accomplished!:lol::lol::lol:

Unless the heels are red I won't have anything to go with them anyway. The fridge isn't fix yet you understand you have just defrosted it when the evaporator coils are again full of ice you will experiance the same problem. I have devined the problem to be the timer which comes energizes the defrost coil for twenty or thirty minutes out of every twenty-four, this eliminates the ice build up. Here's what you do to confirm a bum timer get a long device such as a knitting needle, put one end on the timer (square box back of fridge) and the other end on your ear, listen to hear if the timer is running, if you can't hear it then the timer is defunct, if you can hear it then the element or the thermostat is the problem. What is the age of the machine. In my experiance the timer was most often the problem in situations like you have described.

Generally, we repair most everything around our home, instead of going out and buying new.In 20 years,i have used 1 fridge and bought it second hand..moved here and the fridge left was better than mine so sold it[to the realtor]My freezer is also a used model[about 100 dollars] and has given good service for at least 7 years so far.Besides being financially short, recycling appliances has always been part of the family lifestyle.

Lone Wolf, I hear you loud and clear. Lexmark inkjet printers are notorious for this. I don't quite understand why it's almost as expensive to let your inkjet printer ink cartridge run dry, and buy a new printer, than to by a new cartridge. You'd think with the green movement, manufactures would be accountable in some way to decrease the amount of hardware going into the garbage, by increasing the price, and making repair of hardware viable. It's all about cranking out product, and making money, and I'll bet the workers who build these units aren't getting a fair wage.

My old printer is a HP, Deskjet, 842C. Aside from the fact that no one carries the ink cartridges any more, (well Staples does 2 black for 78.00)8O, the cost of them to order online is ......well.......high.

Compare: Wallymart with a cheapo HP or Lexjet, forget which, for 30.00, and a cartridge for 19.00..............black only, but, hey!!

One can refill the black, and the colour, but the colour tends not to work too well upon refilling, and yer only supposed to refill the black 3x..........I'm on the 5th, so, sooner er later, she's a gonna leak..........

This was a high end printer when I bought it, and it just keeps chugging away;; and now the online HP folks "suggest.......this model over here"

And, just remembered; I was supposed to get a $40.00 mail in rebate from HP when I bought the computer, printer, scanner, et al................and they "decided" not to pay it...........reallly........sent me a letter saying such.......so don't trust their mail in rebate offers.

planned obselescence, gotta love it.:angry3:

Get a 10cc syringe from your local pharmacy, $0.58 and a bottle of Parker ink $6.50. This will do approximately 500 to 800 printed pages. I bought a cannon iP 1800 earlier this spring and began refilling after the first cartrige was exhausted at arround 300 pages. Drill a little hole in the top of your cartrige 2mm to allow passage of the 1.5mm needle and exhaust air, half fill the 10cc syringe inject slowly over a paper towel and reinstall in your machine, you're are off to the bank with the salvaged loot. Compare the cost of replacements with the cost of circumvention of the machine. They will hate you forever.

Keep the insulation dry and the door seals tight and the old stuff will to the job at reasonable cost. The savings realized through new equipment is in my experiance never realized. It's shinny it's stylish it's thin walled flimsey junk to be, two years and the kids have the door pins worn out the seals won't the compressor fails trying to cool the kitchen and you're off to Mels home appliance for the next extraction. You can insulate your beer fridge externally, a nice wooden facade is in fact very uptown fancy and hides the offensive old machine. It's a box attached to a heat pump. I was reading about "stirling cycle" reefer units a little bit a while ago.
Wear safety glasses and heavy work gloves, obey all safety precautions, have a beer first and plan the work out logically.

PS Sometimes gas volumne and pressure/flow can be reasonably cheap to adjust/repair, especially in comparison to the cost of a new unit, but you have to find a repair person not connected with the sale of new units. That's where I used to operate, I would replace the compressor in your kitchen while you had dinner. And all you had to buy was new flooring.

Thanks, DarkBeaver..........jeez, why do I get all horny when I think of darkbeaver??

I've been doing the syringe thing for a bit now, but with the ink they sell at Zellers, Wally, etc...believe they call it a "refill kit"................no shyte!!........so Parker, black, ordinary ink. ?? Got the syringes left over from my crack habit. Hey, good ta go.:blob7:

Kinda thought that about fridges and freezers. We gotta new (smaller) fridge a few years back now, as the frost free feature freed us from defrostin every month, which gets might cold on arthritic hands. and messy. Happy wife - happy life.

you no longer repair stuff?
