First off, this is a strawman. It has nothing to do with anything. Second: Who refused to accept the boat load of Jews that ended up in some of these camps? Germany probably would have sent more boat loads if the first one had have found a home, so the allies were complicit with the death toll in those camps. We did not go there to liberate anybody.

It is not a straw man man Cliff. You said nobody wins in war. The people who were liberated in these camps definitely won. The Dutch who were liberated definitely won. In fact the Dutch are eternally thankful for Canada's involvement.

If you are going to take a simplistic view that all war is simply about business and money you have to be able to defend that position.

I know you have the gist of things and don't get your history from John Wayne movies.

It would be nice if more people read books.

I have a library of them beside me. Two shelfs dedicated to The Great war and the Second War. A few of them are written by a close friend of mine. And yes I have read them.

My point is that the Second War happened, our involvement was warranted, the outcome was better because of it.

I am always fascinated by guys who use wikipedia as the testament to their knowledge regarding the great war and or the second war.

I am always fascinated by guys who criticize wikipedia whilst being completely unable to refute what is written in the pages. From my perspective, it's easy to find and I'm far too lazy to research more (that's code for "I have much more interesting things to do"). Perhaps if you ever surprise me and disprove something I've posted via Wiki, I will change and link to another source. Until that time, you can keep throwing me grapefruits and I can keep belting them out of the park.

If it does not make sense then let me see your logical deconstruction demonstrate that your drug-incorporated piece of Lucifer segment of his dining room table, for in case you had never noticed, there is an entropy pit into which your lord has been put, such that he has to eat pieces of useless retarded pieces of turn like you just to hope for a counterattack.

He thinks when the world gets stupid enough for him to eat enough souls he will get enough to force himself up and out of the pit.

Unlike Gerry, I find your posts extremely helpful. I get my 14 year old daughters to read them every once in a while to show them the harmful effects of drugs. It has been a useful tool to keep them on the straight and narrow and for that, I am indebted to you.

We did not go there to liberate anybody.

Of course we did. By 1939, the only option was to go to war and liberate people we did in spades. If you don't believe that, go to Holland and ask them.

Better if you were Western European post Potsdam. The savage murderer Uncle Joe and his henchman Nakita made out like bandits and never faced a courtroom of International peers for their slaughters.

10 million murdered before Hitler even began his escapades.

I have no doubt that you are lazy. That's code for I have no doubt that you grab snippets from the net because you don't read much more than what is available to you in your arguments. By the way, if you could get off your lazy rump maybe you could go back through this thread and find where I tried to refute the arguments made regarding post war action on the part of the allies.

I know you won't, because you won't find it.

I did not refute what Johnny deemed a catalyst, but then your MO always is to:

  • Leave for awhile while someone else jumps in then slink back
  • Start asking nonsensical questions to muddy the waters
  • Move on or claim you're being attacked
  • Or hope that it turns into a flame war so that the Mods delete a bunch of pages.

So there you go Cannuck do with it what you will.

I am reading UNDER FIRE by WEB Griffin which follows the failings of Truman and the beginning of the cold war Post WWII.

I have just started the book, but so far it has some pretty fascinating stuff.

Slink?

Start asking nonsensical questions to muddy the waters

They're only nonsense to you because you don't understand them

Move on or claim you're being attacked

Ooohh pumpkin!! Does it bother you when I tire of you?

Or hope that it turns into a flame war so that the Mods delete a bunch of pages.

The only reason it turns into a flame war is because some folks do nothing but attack other posters. Do you have even the slightest trace of anything to add to this discussion or is it all about me with you?

and as juan said this day is only for honouring and respecting the fallen and all of those who served
and 'stepped up', its not a discussion about supporting war or not.

that should be on a different thread, it is different subject, and can be discussed all year if you want,
but is not suitable in this thread, you are spitting on the dead, even the innocent you mention, as they
most likely were part of the civilians who were being fought for, who's freedoms were at stake, and they
also died for their countries, sadly, it is all very sad, but in many cases, necessary.

those young men, (teenagers and young adults) who died, have not had a life to live, as you have, they
gave their life for 'you' to live a better life, and you do, be thankful for that, if nothing else.

Did you happen to notice who started this thread and WHAT it was about? Of course you didn't. As usual, you go off half cocked without reading the entire thread. I started this thread before the 11th. I put it in a different thread than the Remembrance day thread so I would not get the bullshyte accusations, like you just accused, of derailing and "spitting on the dead".

If you don't like my attitude towards this subject, you could have stayed out of the thread that I STARTED, instead of accusing me of not posting in the proper thread. Once again you prove that your mouth runneth over before your brain goes into gear.

Gerry, knowing that you have reputation for being generally disagreeable on Christmas and Remembrance Day, why would you start a thread about your well known disagreement with solemn events?

I could disappear from now until Christmas, sign on Christmas day, and you would be pissing on the event just like today. It's understandable that you have strong feeling about a couple of the days in the year - everybody has a birthday, after all - but why is it that you piss all over Armistace Day and Christmas? Didn't you make a family or what?

Another one that opens her mouth when she doesn't have a clue. Show me where I have "pissed on Christmas", I know you won't be able to find it because it is not me that craps all over Christmas, Passover, and Easter. It is your godless atheist brethern that does that. EVERY FU CKING YEAR, and I had warned that I would NOT be holding my tongue this year when your precious "remembrance day" rolled around. You reap what you sow.

Let me get this straight. Everybody is wrong except for gerry.

Gerry did start the thread but Remembrance Day belongs to everyone and that day was dedicated
to all soldiers who died in the great war and subsequent wars by King George VI in 1918.

Show me where I said that. I pointed out, for those morons, that I had started this thread specifically so I did not "piss on" your precious remembrance day thread. and yet, at least 2 idiots informed me that I should be putting these things into their own thread and not "pissing on" a remembrance day thread.

IMNSHO, remembrance day as it is now, does nothing except glorify war. It does nothing to prevent future wars, which is pretty damn obvious since this world has been at war damn near continuously since it's conception. Obviously the "Lest we forget" has been forgotten. So, we continue to send our young men to fight and die in wars that obviously accomplish nothing in the long term.

I have yet to hear at a Remembrance Day ceremony anyone glorifying War - Or celebrating the deaths. As to preventing future wars - Of course it cannot - to think it would is simplistic.

Question - was any War worth fighting? I would gander in my opinion, not yours - very few were.

November 11 honours those who served their country.
But wars "worth fighting" likely can be numbered on one finger.
A case can be made for WW2. However, one "worth fighting" does not mean by extension all the others were.
There is a necessity for armed forces to deter aggression. But, politicians who send their nations' best to war are suspect at best.
The Great War was a war between alliances of empires. The trigger may have been the Austrian-Hungarian invasion of Serbia, but there were great jealousies among the empires that would have led to conflict over another incident. Were soldiers fighting for democracy or freedom? Was Britain, a caste society, any more "democratic" than Austria-Hungary or Germany? And in 1914, Canada was a colony...

True enough for the most part - Irrelevant that the Arch Duke was murdered it was a powder keg waiting for someone to light the fuse.

As I just mentioned on another thread - off to bed - God Bless and keep well.
