(CNN) – President Barack Obama's reelection organization said Tuesday it was "inappropriate" for Robert De Niro to joke at a campaign fundraiser in New York Monday that America wasn't "ready for a white first lady."

"We believe the joke was inappropriate," Olivia Alair, Campaign Press Secretary to the First Lady, said in a statement.

The campaign's comment came after Newt Gingrich delivered a scorching response to De Niro's comments at an Obama for America fundraiser, which was attended by first lady Michelle Obama.

While Michelle Obama headlined the event, she was introduced after De Niro's remarks. The event was also attended by a number of other prominent Obama supporters, including Harvey Weinstein and Beyonce.

"Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?" De Niro asked to cheers from the crowd. "Too soon, right?"

That is the environment we live in. No joking when it comes to those issues. However, our Dems feel that those rules don't apply to them at times.

Oh for God's sake it was a roll reversal shot at comedy and no one should take that seriously.
If it were said by Republicans it would be just as funny. The problem is we have all become so
entrenched in the political correctness of life we have forgotten to live the life we were given.
Anyone who is reasonable knows the difference between something said to be funny and something
said to cause personal hurt. If you look at yourself you know the difference.
All to often it is not what is said its how some want to twist it to mean something else.
I also agree sometimes there is a double standard, in remarks made but I don't think this is even on
the political plain of incorrectness, it was humor. Humour has two important functions.

We should always have the ability to laugh at ourselves
And there is nothing better than a joke at someone else's expense.

lol It kinda reminds me of when Toronto's mayor Mel Lastman worried that he might end up in a pot of soup if he went to Africa and those expected to, railed about the racist nature and such. I don't know... it got a guffaw out of me... but seriously people, he was alluding to a Bob Hope comedy skit or something, ffs. We endure your culture, you endure ours. laugh, dammit!
