That's good. In fact when the MW was increased here in Gopherland the unemployment rate went down. As people earn more money they spend more. This generates more tax revenues and adds to the state's economy and promotes still more job growth.

Therefore, contrary to the myths of certain right wing delusionals, MW's should be increased throughout the USA and Canada.

I've watched minimum wage get increased 20 or 30 times in the past 50 years and the low wage earners are having exactly the same problems today they did then. It's not a political phenomenon but an economic one. -:) What do you think the land lord does when everyone's wage goes up? It's called a catch 22 situation.

JLM,

It will only work if you can get a corresponding increase in productivity.
That's exactly what happened here - the MW went up and there was a corresponding increase in consumption and demand for goods and services. This, in turn, increased jobs and tax revenues. Small wonder why the state's deficit disappeared and we now have a surplus and low unemployment.

That's good, you can't argue with success. -:)

Obama's weekly address: Close corporate tax loopholes

Obama's weekly address: Close corporate tax loopholes

The president devoted today's regular address to closing corporate tax loopholes, especially loopholes that allow American companies to evade taxes by "renouncing their citizenship."
Even as corporate profits are as high as ever, a small but growing group of big corporations are fleeing the country to get out of paying taxes. They’re keeping most of their business inside the United States, but they’re basically renouncing their citizenship and declaring that they’re based somewhere else, just to avoid paying their fair share.
I want to be clear: this is only a few big corporations so far. The vast majority of American businesses pay their taxes right here in the United States. But when some companies cherrypick their taxes, it damages the country’s finances. [...] Right now, a loophole in our tax laws makes this totally legal – and I think that’s totally wrong. You don’t get to pick which rules you play by, or which tax rate you pay, and neither should these companies.

If Republicans are truly patriotic they will happily applaud.

There you have it... Responsible American Corporations are doing their duty in obeying all the laws and paying the required taxes (as a foreign entity) in the USA.

You don’t get to pick which rules you play by, or which tax rate you pay, and neither should these companies.

... Apparently, you do.

Sorry bud, but that's life in the big city

Where's the bill from Congress which has exclusive control over commerce:

US CONSTITUTION: Article I, Section 8, Clause 3: [The Congress shall have Power] To regulate Commerce

Just in case you didn't know it, Obama has no such power. Please try to keep up with the facts.

His stimulus packages failed. Obama succeeded.

could be but wasn't it george's initial heavy lifting then he ran out of time in-office and stuff and barry finished the paperwork...or something.

Gee, you sound like such a Bushbot!

Didn't you know, it was Bush who created the Great Recession.

But wait -

Blame Clinton!
Blame Obama!
Blame Gopher!

Oh, I know that. But ain't it funny how DaSleeper never mentions the word Bushbot to any of his defenders? You know how it is in this forum with all the right wing selectivity. ;)
Oh sh-- t gopher your political system is more f -- up then ours .
There is no left and right in senate or congress all there is , is back scratching and earmarks .
Until and unless we ( and I include Canada ) stop voting for career politicians who are firstly interested in themselves , we will never
progress .
And you as the ultimate progressive should know or at least acknowledge that fact .

But I know you will support Hillary .
