Michelle Obama passport scan appears online in apparent hack

WASHINGTON — The White House said Thursday it was looking into a cyber breach after what appeared to be a scan of first lady Michelle Obama’s passport was posted online.
The fresh disclosures, which included emails to and from White House staffers, raised further concerns about the security of sensitive systems following a string of breaches affecting government agencies, private companies and the Democratic National Committee. Though officials declined to say whether the disclosures were authentic, there were no immediate reasons to suspect they were not.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch said it was “something that we are looking into.” The U.S. Secret Service, responsible for the first lady’s safety, also expressed concern.
Mrs. Obama’s information was part of a batch of emails purportedly hacked from the Gmail account of a White House “advance” staffer who co-ordinated logistics for official trips spanning from February 2015 through July 2016. The breach included the photo-and-information page of her passport, including a passport number, birthdate and place of birth — most of which is public information.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said officials were taking a “close look” at what happened. While emphasizing the need for government workers to be cautious with cyber security, he sought to downplay concerns by pointing out that the advance staffer whose email was apparently hacked was a contract worker rather than a permanent member of the president’s staff.
“At this point I cannot announce any sort of conclusion that’s been reached about the individual or individuals that may have been responsible for the cyber breach that resulted in this information being leaked,” Earnest said.
The Secret Service didn’t say whether it had opened a formal investigation, but confirmed it was aware of the “alleged email hacking.”
“The Secret Service is concerned any time unauthorized information that might pertain to one of the individuals we protect, or our operations, is allegedly disclosed,” said Secret Service communications director Cathy Milhoan.
The first lady’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
The information was posted on DCLeaks.com, the same website where former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s private emails were recently disclosed. The site says its goal is to expose the misuse of political power, and has been alleged to be an outlet for hackers tied to Russian intelligence groups.
In another reminder of how pervasive the hacking problem has become, Yahoo said Thursday that hackers stole personal information from 500 million accounts, including birth dates, hashed passwords and security answers used to verify an accountholder’s identity. The internet company attributed the breach to a “state sponsored actor.”

Atlanta teacher's assistant fired for calling Michelle Obama a 'gorilla'
Postmedia Network

A teacher's assistant has been canned after repeatedly calling Michelle Obama a "gorilla" on Facebook, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Jane Wood Allen, who was employed at Chestatee Elementary in Gainesville in suburban Atlanta, made multiple posts about the First Lady, including one where she commented on a story on her various vacations.
“This poor Gorilla. How is she going to function in the real world, by not having all of her luxurious vacations paid for anymore,” she said.
She also responded to an article about Obama being admired by women all around the world.
“I admire a gorilla more that I admire her. (Wait I forgot, she is a gorilla)!” she wrote.
The postings quickly spread on social media, and the firestorm eventually reached the offices of the district school board. Allen deleted all of them, but it was too late to save her job.
“Effective Monday, Oct. 3, Jane Wood Allen has been relieved from duty and is no longer an employee of Forsyth County Schools,” the school board wrote on Facebook.
“Racism and discrimination are not tolerated in our school district. We are committed to ongoing staff training on the acceptance of all individuals.”
A screengrab of Jane Wood Allen's Facebook post, which has since been deleted, refers to U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama as a "gorilla." (screengrab)

The assumption of 'racism and discrimination' is just assumption. But to the politically correct, it couldn't POSSIBLY be just a case of dislike!
Educational institutions are ruled by the Democrat's political correctness policies.
If someone made the same comments about a Republican I'll bet there would be nothing said about it. It might even be applauded.

I'm going to assume that, because you're Canadian, you don't understand this. You may take my word for it that calling a black person a gorilla or a chimpanzee in the United States is racist. It is a deliberate, calculated insult based solely on race that carries a freightcar-load of historical and cultural implications.

Bakery accused of racism for Oreo pastry

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland bakery is being accused of racism for selling an Oreo cupcake they named “Mr. President.”
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that customers have been leaving Yelp reviews criticizing Fat Cupcake for its “Mr. President” pastry. The cupcake is described as an Oreo Cookie baked inside white cake with cookies n’ cream buttercream.
Owner Anjelica Hayes says she is black, so the cupcake cannot be racist. She said they originally named the cupcake because it was so good they wanted it to hold public office. She later found out President Barack Obama’s favourite cookie was the Oreo.
For now to avoid the controversy Hayes has renamed the cupcake “the Professional.” She said the cupcake is still the most popular item at the store despite its name.

Oh I understand it perfectly! It's the same here in Canada.
You can call people the filthiest of names but you cant call them anything that they can choose to interpret as 'racist'.
People call other people weasels, dogs, monkeys, pussies, foxes, apes. One politician was called a kitten-eating alien.
Any minority can seize on an epithet as racist and they do it all the time.
Would it have been any less degrading to call Michelle a loud-mouthed lunatic? A Hillary suck-up? A grizzly bear?

No, you clearly don't understand. An insult is an insult. Calling a person a dog, or a weasel, or whatever, is an insult to that person individually.

Because of the history and culture of the U.S., calling a black person a gorilla is saying that they are sub-human by mere virtue of their skin color. It's a tradition that goes back to slavery, to mandatory, legally-ordained discrimination, to murder both mass and individual of people who would be lauded and praised (such as veterans in uniform) but for the color of their skin. And it bespeaks the fact that a Republican United States Senator who is black is pulled over by the cops seven times in one year. How often do you think white Republican Senators are pulled over?

The message of racism is "Whatever you do, whatever you achieve, whatever kindness, brilliance, or heroism you do in your life, you will always be worthless because of the color of your skin."

Hope that helps.

Well that kind of reasoning is not anything I would ever want to understand. It is plain, downright idiotic!
It's a generalization and generalization is nothing more than an excuse to cause an uproar over nothing.
I could call a white man a big ape and that would be acceptable. If I called a black man a big ape I would be calling all black men big apes. Is that what you're telling me? That's ridiculous!
I fail to understand why, at this point in time, blacks are so touchy about the color of their skin. FGS, none of can help what color we are. What difference does it make? Slavery ended a long time ago. Get over it!.

Ya know, in that photo above she does look like a gorilla. An angry gorilla.

Pennsylvania town council voting on mayor’s resignation over racist Obama posts
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Monday, October 17, 2016 11:58 AM EDT | Updated: Monday, October 17, 2016 12:07 PM EDT
WEST YORK, Pa. — A Pennsylvania town council is expected to vote on a resignation proposal by the mayor after an uproar over racist posts on his Facebook page, including two depicting apes with captions referring to President Barack Obama and his family.
One image of a wagon full of orangutans refers to “moving day” at the White House. Another referred to lynching.
The West York borough council has already voted to censure Republican Mayor Charles Wasko, but they have no power to throw him out of office.
Wasko has said he’s the victim of a “witch hunt” originating with a fight over the borough’s acting police chief.
But in an interview earlier this month with Harrisburg TV station WHTM, he also said: “The racist stuff, yeah. I’ll admit I did that, and I don’t care what people label me as.” He added that he did not regret the posts.
Wasko has offered to resign if the borough reinstates the previous police chief, who is on paid leave.
The council was scheduled to meet Monday night.

But I just explained why it is that way, and you seem to agree.

I fail to understand why, at this point in time, blacks are so touchy about the color of their skin.
Did you miss what I said about a black United States senator of the Republican party being pulled over by the cops seven times in one year? THAT, davesmom, is why "they" are so touchy about the color of their skin.

FGS, none of can help what color we are. What difference does it make? Slavery ended a long time ago. Get over it!.

Tell you what. Black people will get over it when white cops get over it. How does that sound?

'Repugnant' costume: Noose around neck of Obama mask spotted at NCAA football game
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin says it asked a fan wearing what appeared to be a President Barack Obama mask and a noose around his neck to remove the offensive parts of the costume during the school’s football game on Saturday night against Nebraska.
A picture circulating on social media showed the fan in a black-and-white jumpsuit, wearing the mask, the noose and a sign on his chest. Another person appeared to be holding up the rope of the noose.
The fan complied when guest services staff asked to remove the offensive parts of the costume, according to a school statement .
University policy does not allow fans to wear masks while entering the stadium, but they are allowed to wear them once inside.
The school said the costume, “while repugnant and counter to the values of the university and athletic department, was an exercise of the individual’s right to free speech.”
Wisconsin says it also exercised its right to ask the fan to remove the offensive parts of the costume.
