Can't blame Republicans for taking cheap shots - Democrats could easily have done the same with Bush but they're too scared to do it. To this day Dems refuse to remove the halo the GOP has put around Reagan even though he supported two fascist groups in Central America in his time. That's their choice.
None of this matters now. The die is cast and our political culture has taken on a life of its own. In some ways what is happening to America is like a Greek tragedy.

The American left and right will destroy the country, and something new will replace what now exists. The light at the end of the tunnel is quite clearly an approaching freight train. The only way I'm able to deal with the sorrow and heartbreak is through detachment.

How do I know these things? It's easy. Look at the state of public education in America and the condition of the political culture. We know the limited universe of human nature and the limited repertoire of human behavior. Only a change of consciousness could save the existing order in America. Unfortunately, it is clear that a change of consciousness cannot occur in the absence of the shared experience of protracted suffering.

We had protracted suffering in Great Depression/WW II. During the Bush regime, we had the largest drop in the USA's middle class. But that hasn't really changed the political climate. Liberals can just learn to develop some political b@lls and just point out that it is the right wing that created this mess just like that article I recently posted about the trillions sheltered overseas. Unless and until they develop those cojones, we will not have any real change.

The Americans of the Great Depression had a level of social cohesion that's hard to imagine today. Ninety percent of the Americans of that era belonged to a demographic and cultural group that shared identity, consciousness, and world view. The lack of social cohesion is the missing element in this era.

Quote of the day, "Barack Obama is not the answer to this county's problems, Barack Obama IS this country's problems!".

This guy cracked me up:

Adrienne's Corner: Drinking with Bob: Sums up Mitt Romney's tax returns...

The job of President of the United States is one that every occupant until Barack Obama has taken seriously.

But as for the real work of the job, President Obama has been a no-show.
Consider this evidence:
He’s not received an economic briefing in over a year—since April of 2011.
He’s held only three full press conferences since last June.
He’s spent no time whatsoever meeting with members of Congress on budget matters. In fact, in his administration, almost every statutorily required budget submission has been late.
In the last six months, he's not met once with his jobs council.

Almost four years after the American people elected him to hold the office of President, a growing number of Americans are coming to a stark conclusion. Barack Obama is not serious enough about the job to be worthy of it.

By this you mean stratification and the growing gap between the rich and poor?
That's part of it, but the phenomenon is much deeper and complex. In earlier iterations of America class interaction was more dynamic, personal, and face to face.

The problem transcends class and money alone. I don't care how much money someone makes. What matters is the floor under those people incapable physically or mentally of providing for themselves. I don't care about equality of outcome as do post modern liberals. I care about the safety net under those folks who can't work...as opposed to those folks who don't want to work.

The principle of assimilation is no longer operative in creating a people with some modicum of shared identity, experience, and consciousness. These commonalities produce social cohesion. Without social cohesion America will not be able to act effectively in this new era.

Obama Campaign Stiffs California City $35K...

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Newport Beach may call the bill collectors on President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Chicago-based Obama for America hasn’t coughed up $35,000 for the cost of providing police protection during the president’s February fundraiser in Corona del Mar, leaving Newport Beach stuck with the bill, the Orange County Register reported Monday.

According to city policy, parties holding major events in the city are billed for municipal services unless there is a grant or sponsorship to cover the cost. City policy also directs bills unpaid after 120 days to collection agencies.

City spokeswoman Tara Finnigan noted that Mitt Romney’s campaign promptly paid a bill of $10,441 for his June fundraiser at the Balboa Bay Club.

The president’s visit was costlier because it entailed a higher level of security, she said.

The bill was sent in May and was due in June. City officials also contacted the Democratic National Committee about payment, but the DNC said the Secret Service is responsible for presidential security.

Agency spokesman Max Milien told the Los Angeles Times that it does not have the budget to pay for those expenses.

“We cannot reimburse any agencies,” Milien said. “We make that clear from Day 1.”

If a city cannot afford to pay for additional police or overtime, the city should inform the Secret Service in advance so assistance from other law enforcement agencies can be requested free of charge, Milien said.

City Manager Doug Kiff said the Police Department did inform the Secret Service ahead of time.

“At that time, our staff was told that the Secret Service would not reimburse the city,” Kiff wrote in an email, “and that we should check with the president’s campaign or the DNC.”

Good luck getting that money. The work is done and they are gone!

It happens in business quite often. You bend over backwards to make an event work but when the event is over they pack their stuff and leave and you're left standing with the bill.

Any one who trusts the American left is a fool. They never act in good faith. The only course of action is eternal struggle against them. That keeps them busy and reduces the mischief they can wreak.

Romney praises Israel's Socialist Health Care system:

Romney praises health care in Israel, where research says ‘strong government influence’ has driven down costs

commentators say:

''What is funny is that Mitt the Twitt also praised Israel's healthcare system which is a socialist type system.''

''How droll....

Israel spends 8% on GDP on universal heatlthcare, same as the UK.......

Yet Republicans praise Israel, while trying to ridicule the NHS in the UK..''

And where is Obama? Why doesn't he praise that same SOCIALIST health care system in Israel that we American taxpayers pay for????

If Obama is reelected does anyone think things will improve economically or politically in America? Not bloody damn likely. What's sad is that if Romney is elected things may very well continue along the present trajectory. America has passed the tipping point.

Obamabots Barraged With Increasingly Desperate Pleas For Cash...

Each plea for money from President Obama and his allies has become more urgent and desperate than the last.

His campaign’s chief operating officer said on Monday that “we’ve gotten our behinds handed to us.”

Vice President Joe Biden warned on the same day that Mr. Obama would lose if “the other side spends us into oblivion.”

Michele Obama worried aloud about waking up on election day “wondering if I could have done more.” And Al Gore, the former vice president, said victories by the “extremist fringe” would “spell disaster” for the country.

The answer, according to all of them? A donation of $3 (or more) by midnight on Tuesday. (The e-mails don’t say “Pretty please!” — yet.)

but wait, there's more

No doubt you are correct to a certain extent. Without major economic and political reforms the USA will continue to decline. Unfortunately, major reforms in the US are going to take a lot of people in the streets; and so far that has not truly manifested itself in spite of recent short-term protests.

A bell once rung cannot be unrung. As the Bard said there is a tide in the affairs of men.

The established order in America will not survive. What comes after it is likely to be worse. Major reforms in America are likely to lead to unanticipated consequences. I am very pessimistic. How does one reform an entire culture?

I keep thinking about the fable of the phoenix and wishing it were true.

Does any one disagree that Barack Obama is a moron? I didn't think so. Check out Obama's big secret:

As one analyst on FOX said the other day, 60% of congress used to be moderate. That's how business got done. Now it's extreme left and extreme right .. no middle. That's what's hurting the US more than anything.
