I don't know how anyone expected anything else but.

My opinion of the man, as I said to my co-worker last night, is that he's not just working to absolute power in Russia itself, but the interferences he and they have made over the world in subtle and not so subtle ways is his push to make Russia the only Super Power in the world. He doesn't care how he does it, either, whether it's making old powers a laughing stock, helping out the wrong kinds of people to keep them in power and thus owing him, or outright acting in ways that normally would call for the war drums to play.

He's one of those men who wants history to remember him as a Power and be rightly afraid of him. IMO, kind'a like Hitler, only with more purpose.

I bet he was very worried about not winning. Since he screwed up Clintons win which should have been in the bag. Must have fixed the computer glitch on the voting machines.

Putin would have won the Russian election even without all the ballot box stuffing, and worshipful state media, and general thuggery aimed at any opposition. He's the strong man that Russia always resorts to when they feel they are being surrounded and threatened. Russia has always been a very insular and xenophobic nation. The Western sanctions and campaign of demonization have, in fact, worked in Putin's favour.

Don't get me wrong. Putin is a dyed in the wool KGB operative. He is a murderer. He and the FSB (successor to the KGB) were responsible for the apartment bombings which killed 293 innocent people and galvanized his political ascendency as the answer to 'Chechen terrorism'. He has run a relentless campaign of assassination and imprisonment against political opponents and journalists.

He comes across in public pronouncements as a voice of moderation and reason. Don't be fooled. He is a megalomaniac and kleptomaniac.. perhaps worth $200 billion. All of that held by surrogates or a labrynth of holding companies.. ALL dependent on his remaining in power.

That said it is ONLY the Russian people who can remove Putin from power. The West has no stake in this game. Trump realizes this. Which is why he is not directing a futile effort to dethrone Czar Vladamir from abroad; the bankrupt policy of Barak Obama/Hillary Clinton. That's why he phoned Putin to acknowledge his 'election'.. which imho was likely far less than a 'congratulation'.

Something to chew on.

Don’t give Putin his Berlin moment

In 1936, the international community ignored the obvious anti-Semitism, racism and aggression of Hitler’s regime and allowed the Olympic Games to go ahead in Berlin. The Nazis were delivered a propaganda coup.

At the opening ceremony, Hitler’s propaganda minister Goebbels said the Games were “a victory for the German cause.” The Manchester Guardian described the Games as a “Nazi Party rally disguised as a sporting event.” Three short years later, Hitler and his then-Soviet ally Stalin invaded Poland, launching the most murderous conflict in human history.

In 2014, for the first time in Europe since the end of World War II, a state tried to change international borders by force. Putin’s Russia invaded Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula. Shortly after, Russia invaded eastern Ukraine, launching a war of aggression that is in its fifth year and has cost Ukraine thousands of lives.

In June, the 2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to begin in Russia. As the UK’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson recently said, “the comparison with 1936 is certainly right. It is an emetic prospect to think of Putin glorying in this sporting event.”

The parallels between the ’36 Games and the 2018 World Cup are striking. Once again, a prestigious international sporting event is being held in a country ruled by a murderous dictator bent on destroying the rules by which the international community lives. Once again, an international sporting event will be used by a dictator to consolidate his grip on his country’s people. Once again, a dictator will use sport to try to gain international legitimacy.

The free world should not let that happen. FIFA needs to remove the World Cup from Russia and hold it in a country that does not violate international law, wage wars of aggression, commit war crimes, or systematically dope its athletes.

The Putin regime’s actions demonstrate its utter contempt for the values and principles upon which the democratic world is based – in addition to invading Ukraine, Putin is supporting the vicious Assad regime in its war against the Syrian people. Russia has shot down a civilian airliner, MH-17, murdering 298 innocent civilians.

The Russian regime systematically targets dissent at home, persecutes the LGBTQ community and seeks to undermine elections abroad. Just a few weeks ago, Russia perpetrated the first chemical attack on the soil of a NATO country, using a nerve agent against a former Russian spy in Salisbury, maliciously endangering the lives of hundreds of people.

Getting FIFA to remove the World Cup from Russia will of course be a tall order. The football federation is hopelessly corrupt, as has been demonstrated by the dozens of indictments of high-ranking FIFA officials by the US Justice Department, Swiss authorities and others, on charges of bribery, kickbacks and influence peddling. Many of these charges stem from the process awarding Russia the Cup in the first place. The former FIFA chief who brought the Games to Russia, Sepp Blatter, is banned from FIFA activities for overseeing this pyramid of graft.

The international community has significant leverage over FIFA. States that respect democratic values should make clear their intention to boycott the Games in Russia. If states who qualified – such as England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Spain – and many others – announce that their teams will not participate in a World Cup held in Russia, FIFA will have no choice but to move the event, or risk having it turn into a farce.

The free world must send a message to Putin that the threat to international peace posed by Russia will be met with a strong response. Removing the World Cup from Russia would be an important signal that Russia must change its behavior. We should not let history repeat itself. Don’t give Putin his Berlin moment.

Andris Kesteris is President of the Central & Eastern European Council

Oh...?

The reality of neo-Nazis in Ukraine is far from Kremlin propaganda

As the Trump administration mulls sending weapons to Ukraine, the question of far-right forces employed by the Kiev government has returned to the forefront. Some Western observers claim that there are no neo-Nazi elements in Ukraine, chalking the assertion up to propaganda from Moscow. Unfortunately, they are sadly mistaken.

There are indeed neo-Nazi formations in Ukraine. This has been overwhelmingly confirmed by nearly every major Western outlet. The fact that analysts are able to dismiss it as propaganda disseminated by Moscow is profoundly disturbing. It is especially disturbing given the current surge of neo-Nazis and white supremacists across the globe.

The most infamous neo-Nazi group in Ukraine is the 3,000-strong Azov Battalion, founded in 2014. Prior to creating Azov, its commander, Andriy Biletsky, headed the neo-Nazi group Patriot of Ukraine, members of which went on to form the core of Azov. Biletsky had stated that the mission of Ukraine is to “lead the White Races of the world in a final crusade for their survival … against the Semite-led Untermenschen.”

The ex-Israeli Soldier Who Led a Kiev Fighting Unit
'Delta' has headed 'the Blue Helmets of Maidan' of 40 men and women -

As platoon leader, Delta says he takes orders from activists connected to Svoboda, an ultra-nationalist party that has been frequently accused of anti-Semitism and whose members have been said to have had key positions in organizing the opposition protests.

“I don’t belong [to Svoboda], but I take orders from their team. They know I’m Israeli, Jewish and an ex-IDF soldier. They call me ‘brother,’” he said. “What they’re saying about Svoboda is exaggerated, I know this for a fact. I don’t like them because they’re inconsistent, not because of [any] anti-Semitism issue.”

The commanding position of Svoboda in the revolution is no secret, according to Ariel Cohen, a senior research fellow at the Washington D.C.-based Heritage Foundation think tank.

Fellow Jews have criticized him for working with Svoboda. “Some asked me if instead of ‘Shalom’ they should now greet me with a ‘Sieg heil.’

YUP.Facts as opposed to opinions: ISRAELIS HELPING NAZIS. Just like they are helping ISUS.

Reuters (finally) realize there are Nazis in Ukraine

In the Atlantic, in 2014, Ukrainian Nazis were dismissed as a “phantom menace”. Luke Harding wrote a (brilliantly argued) column in the Guardian saying that “there weren’t any Nazis in Ukraine because one of the Maidan protesters was Jewish.” Politico magazine mocked “Putin’s Imaginary Nazis”, whilst US News warned against Russia’s “Neo-Nazi Propaganda”. The Guardian simply headlined: “Don’t believe the Russian propaganda about Ukraine’s ‘fascist’ protesters!”

There never were Nazis in Ukraine.

Except now there are.
