The police had the law on their side, and the ability to use violence against the non-violent without repercussions. Only one side was Weaponized with guns and shields and lasers and tasers and phasers and horseback crowd control and fencing, etc…

Interesting read at the link above with everybody pointing the finger at everybody else.

Mr. Trudeau then said that, on the Ottawa policing side, he had some concerns about how the convoy was handled from the beginning, and asked about Mr. Watson’s relationship with then Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly.

Mr. Watson said that while he was confused by a comment Mr. Sloly had made about there perhaps not being a “police solution” to the protests, he was supporting the chief, as “now is not the time to change courses.”

The minutes show that the prime minister also expressed his frustration with Ontario’s leadership.

“Doug Ford has been hiding from his responsibility on it for political reasons, as you highlighted, and important that we don’t let them get away from that,” Mr. Trudeau said.

Whom was hiding again? Undisclosed Batcave location?
First hiding at the cabin with Covid and then spirited out of the country to an undisclosed location for his safety .

Our Mp used to be Tofino Mayor. As long as the non coalition coalition hangs together the turd is welcome in
Tofino. The rest of the riding, not so much.

The natives no longer show him respect and will leak his presence post haste in the present environment.

OTTAWA—A week before the Trudeau government invoked the federal Emergencies Act, Canada’s spy service told Ottawa police and federal officials the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protests did not have substantial connections to foreign actors, documents at an inquiry into the unprecedented use of the law now show.

A memo tabled Tuesday summarizes a Feb. 6 call among federal, provincial and city government officials and reveals for the first time that CSIS was looking for but did not find substantial connections to foreign fundraising or organizers among the convoy protesters at that point.

“There is no major organizing of truckers coming from USA to Canada as part of this convoy. It is primarily a domestic issue,” the notes quote CSIS director David Vigneault as telling the group, which included Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.

“There is no foreign actors identified at this point supporting or financing this convoy,” according to the notes quoting Vigneault on Feb. 6.

Vigneault said that federal assessment was supported by Canada’s financial intelligence agency known as Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), as well as banks, which he said were tracking funds raised on GoFundMe — which at one point reached $10 million — and other fundraising platforms for the convoy organizers.

“CSIS has also not seen any foreign money coming from other states to support this,” Vigneault added, according to the document.

The police & politicians at all levels sniping or outright attacking each other, and finger pointing….while the protestors protested.

It’s clearer than ever that the Trudeau government lacked anything close to the kind of national-security emergency needed to slam down the giant mallet of Canadian statutes.

“Were there incidents? There always are,” Kanellakos continued. However, “was there any extreme violence or anybody seriously injured? No.”

This mirrors reports from Ottawa police during the protests that despite reporting by the CBC and other “progressive” outlets, and claims by Liberal and NDP MPs, about illegal gun possession, assaults, intimidation and rape by the truckers, there were in fact no arrests among convoy participants for serious crimes.

There were no foreign masterminds, financiers or white nationalists pulling the convoy’s strings. Convoy participants didn’t dance on the national cenotaph nor (very likely) wave around a Canadian flag adorned with swastikas. Those seem to have been perpetrated by agitators taking advantage of the presence of the truckers.

Police hadn’t asked for Emergencies Act powers to deal with the convoy. Indeed, Ottawa police, Ontario Provincial Police and the RCMP have all, previously, testified elsewhere they did not ask for the act, despite repeated claims by Liberal cabinet ministers that police did.

The truth would seem to be that the Trudeau government put more stock in reports by the CBC and the Toronto Star – who were just as frightened (without cause) as the Liberals – than in real reports by police, the intelligence services and the government’s own money-laundering investigators.

Because they don’t understand ordinary, working Canadians, the Liberals wet themselves at the presence of the convoy and are still trying to divert attention from the stain.

“As of today a bank or other financial service provider will be able to immediately freeze or suspend an account without a court order. In doing so they will be protected against civil liability for action taken in good faith”

“We have the right and the power to freeze and suspend your bank accounts if your truck is present at the protests even if you yourself are not personally present. We will suspend your drivers license and insurance. We’ll make sure that you are unable to pay your mortgage, your employees and that you are disabled from working as a trucker because you dared to protest against our vaccine mandate”.

The Emergencies Act, passed in 1988, requires a high legal bar to be invoked. It may only be used in an "urgent and critical situation" that "seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians". Lawful protests do not qualify.

What a shit show . The sad thing many of the protesters in Ottawa were Liberal voters . We’re is the operative word .

Call an election. This Govt is done.
If they’re truly screwed…then there will be no election until 2025….but if they have some kind of glimmer of hope that they can spin you would see one sooner.

This prognostication is brought to you be the Non-Coalition Coalition’s Coalition (That’s definitely not a Coalition).

Who is still listening? If people believed in climate change and their green agenda "Climate Change" would never be every second word out of Trudeau’s mouth. It wouldn't be necessary to keep repeating the lie over and over and over. Everyone would be on side.

OTTAWA — The intelligence chief of the Ontario Provincial Police told a federal inquiry Wednesday that he saw no “credible” information of a national security threat or extremist violence during the self-styled “Freedom Convoy” protests.

The statement appears to contradict assertions from the federal government, which cited the threat of political violence as part of its justification for invoking the Emergencies Act to deal with the demonstrations last winter.

“Everybody was asking about extremism. We weren’t seeing much evidence of it,” Morris said during his testimony Wednesday evening.

Morris also suggested that fears of extremist violence stemming from the protests were exaggerated by unnamed political leaders and unspecified news reports. “There always seems to be an overreach that comes with this politicization,” Morris said.

He said that politicians’ comments and media reports during the convoy conveyed an inaccurate “problematic” picture of what was going on. The rest at the above link.
The inquiry is a legal requirement under the Emergencies Act to evaluate whether the government met the high threshold required to use it.

There could be serious security revelations to come that underline the Emergency Act's necessity or indications the protesters were indeed flirting with sedition instead of merely venting vaccine-mandate frustration.

But with CSIS reporting no sign of espionage, foreign actors on the stage or financing from outside Canada coupled with little evidence of physical violence or harassment beyond a lot of blaring horns, it will take a vivid imagination for the commission to find Trudeau's unprecedented and heavy-handed reaction was justified against a rapidly easing emergency.

To be honest, I wouldnt mind bonfires, pig roasts, amusements for children, open air debate, sport, education, first aid, support for homeless provided by a self policing community invading North Central Regina.

It would have been the safest and most crime free 2 weeks in the psst 40 years.

Ferguson agreed with nearly all the assessment.

She said OPS officers were “exhausted” BEFORE the Freedom Convoy even step foot in Ottawa.

“I would describe us as being on our knees and having run a marathon for the last two and a half years and it felt like they’ve moved finish line 100 miles and given us 200 pounds to carry to get to the end,” Ferguson told commission counsel.

Then more infighting…etc…same disfunction-junction that’s become a familiar theme here…

Ferguson’s notes of a meeting on Feb. 9 show Sloly was also getting increasingly angry at his staff and trying to consolidate his leadership. She said he threatened to “crush” anyone who got in the way of operational plans.

“Don’t bother arguing…. Anyone who gets in their way will be crushed,” Ferguson wrote about Sloly and Superintendent Mark Patterson. “I was aghast,” she told the commission, etc…

Ferguson’s notes from Feb. 5 showed Sloly claiming in a meeting he had an “excellent plan” to end the convoy, but the acting deputy chief did not agree with that assessment, etc…

Ferguson’s testimony also appears to confirm that of the chair of the committee overseeing Ottawa’s police. On Wednesday it was revealed there was “constant” infighting within the force that hampered its ability to deal with the Freedom Convoy protests and undermined Chief Peter Sloly’s authority.

Asked what she would do different in hindsight, Ferguson said: “I suppose I would have given more credibility to the information from intelligence (or Google) telling us that it was an action that was planning on staying for a much longer period of time.”

Seriously, I'd like to see how Trudeau (or any other leader) expects to "control Mother Nature." They'd be bloody geniuses if they could. Instead, just slam the citizenry with more taxes & that'll work instead - huh, who knew?
