Canada Post Parcel Delivery should be privatized. That is the only way that users of the service will get proper service. Currently, the unionized, coddled, anti-service employees are not interested in doing their jobs, so they should not have them. Cut their salaries by half, and get some people in there who value having a job and who take pride in doing their job well.
Let the free market set the postal rates for parcel delivery.
UPS, FedEx, or other large courier companies could bid to take over the parcel service and vastly improve the service for Canadians.
I look forward to your comments.
Thank you.

They can keep their parcel service but they should not be allowed to own Purolator which is in direct competition with other delivery companies.

I agree a crown corporation should not own a private company it goes against the postal act of Canada

Some private post offices do

Private post office employees don’t make much over the minimum wage

In a private post office the retail clerks just are not held responsible as in a real post office.

Also in the private post office the concept of Security of the Mail is just not understood and that why they do not get paid well

In my experience, our local RPOs are more concerned with security of the mail, because they can be fired for messing up, whereas Canada Post employees seemingly can't be fired for much of anything.

No, Liberalman, you are quite incorrect on all of thesse comments. I'd say you don't know about any of this, and you are just listening to the rumours. Yes, I've heard these rumours.

Thank you TenPenny, you are quite right.

Probably? So just another guess? Why don't you find out for real. It's not up to a union to hire or fire employees.

Liberalman, I work at a Canada Post RETAIL OUTLET, and I say you don't know what you're talking about..
I will say again, Canada Post sets the prices, not the business owners.

"If you don't like Canada Post, you are more than welcome to go to UPS or FedEx.
Actually, maybe we would prefer if you did go somewhere else.."

Yup, defiantly go private, just look how well the U.S. postal service is doing since doing that.

Some US associates are talking about "un-privatizing" the US postal system.

The irony is, several of them are hard-core Bakersfield Republicans.

They use Fedex for most things special, but there's still a tonne of day-to-day jazz people need the Postal Service for, and it just hasn't been working.

I know I have no idea what all the ramifications are but I know several times I've been quite chagrinned at having to pay over $6 to mail something the size of my thumb.

Have no idea what the current rates are but quite recently it was cheaper to ship by Greyhound and generally faster too.

If memory serves, Greyhound is subsidized by taxpayers to cover some of the not-so-busy-routes. The problem with privatization is that nobody wants to deliver mail to Champion Alberta or Minto New Brunswick. Unfortunately, Canada is a large country with a low population density and the demand for postal service is being eroded away with newer technology. I doubt any decent company would be interested in buying Canada Post.

Incorrect.

Greyhound Courier Express - FAQ

But I can forgive you for being an uninformed Liberal.

Don't know about the big cities but in most places you have to pay extra to have it delivered to the door. In our area, there is no door to door with Greyhound. There is with Purolator.

I did some investigative research and got in contact with the American postal union and I asked the question if the United States Postal Services or USPS, has gone private or is in a process of going private and they would not answer the question just kept passing me to other departments then I contacted the USPS and they did the same thing so as a last resort I contacted the Democrats in Washington D.C and they told me that the USPS is still under the government.

Because of the secrecy of the American postal union and the USPS I have to assume that President Obama is on the verge of selling off government services to reduce the size of the American government to save money.

From what I read, the US Postal service is an "independent establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States" and has been like that since 1971. So what is this talk of un-privatizing the postal system?

Okay, I just did some quick reading...

It used to be a Department (what Canucks call a Ministry) until '71when Nixon "privatized" it as much as he could into what Canucks would call a "Crown Corporation".

Nixon couldn't go any further because the existence of the postal service as a public service is in the US Constitution.
