I can understand your grave concern Nick, they are bleeding you for $1.53 a year. Is there a politician here that bleeds you for less?-:)

Queen costs us more than the Brits pay - Canada - Macleans.ca

I could care less except for the price tag we pay every time they come here. It was $1.2 million for the trip plus all the costs for extra police & security.

High price tag for Will and Kate’s Canadian tour | Canada | News | Toronto Sun

Those cops and security are costing you regardless, just for those days they were assigned to Royalty instead of "general duties".

$1.2 million vs. how much money spent by tourists who flocked in droves to see them?

The cops are not pulled from normal duties. They are all on overtime. Read the article. Also to me they are just people. Nothing specjal about them other than being more inbred than Kentucky cousins and being super rich from stealing from the people and evading taxes.

Good morning to you too. That means along the way to your coffee I can bug your head with some ideas while dancing just out of slug-range.

What do you think about how in 1982 QE-II offered the Canadian Crown to Andrew if Ottawa would build him a palace good enough for a new King to live in, and Trudeau rejected it?

Americans spend $200 million per year on pagentry tourism, and Canada has all the stuff it takes to build movie set-dec's extending to paying RCMP to wear their formal uniforms... plus build - I was gonna say bear-drawn chariots, but really, all one gotta do is reighn in some northern caribou, and feed them well while keeping their toes clipped to make them good tuggers - a "Castle" that would be as big a cost on Canada's economy as the construction of ten miles of highway, such that it would pay for itself and make a profit, and @#$%hole Trudeau rejected it! Why?

The point is: The Canadian crown is not the same as the British nor Australian Crown. It just happens to be the same person holding them right now, and she offered to give it to her second son if Canada would set him up.

.

That is actually an idea worth considering. William IV offered to turn Buckingham palace into the British Parliament after fire gutted the old place.

hate to see Andy and Fergie having to 'Slum it'...

He would reign at our pleasure; and, not all of us are pleased.
Pass the toast, Cliff.

Obama reigns at Americans' pleasure and not everyone is pleased. How is that any different?

Does Canada also ban Danish or Swedish or Japanese royalty from visiting Canada because of the cost? Or is it just your own royalty that you have a problem with?

The Pope is a monarch (and an absolute one at that) - will you protest a visit to Canada by him?

Do you really think that no royals will ever step foot in a Canadian republic (which Canadians will have to pay for, whereas they get their monarchy for free, because the British pay for it for them)?

They also clog the streets. When William and Kate were here year or two ago the streets were totally packed. I forgot they were going to be here on that particular day. It took about 15 minutes to walk two blocks between Elgin street and the Rideau Centre.

And there's a reason the streets were absolutely packed when Wills and Kate visited, and it wasn't to throw dead cats and rotten vegetables at them.

What DOES it tell you when the streets of Canada are packed during a royal visit?

That there are as many mindless followers of royalty in Canada as there are mindless followers of royalty in Britain. It is a throw back to an older time when the peasants were in need of a lord and master, whether human or divine. Now some of us have learned to take care of ourselves and do not need lords and masters to run our lives. Some of us have grown up.

And what will you replace monarchy with? A person in a suit. A President Harper. Doesn't sound very appealing to me.

Give me a monarch as Head of State over a politician as Head of State any day of the week.

You mean from the days when the media recorded his cell conversation telling Camilla he wanted to be her tampon?

Like Osama Bin Laden, Charles had to get a rude introduction into the electronic security age! IN 1998, Bin Laden came within two hours of being pulverised by Cruise missiles- tracked by his satellite phone usage...

Osama was an engineer...

Hmmmmmmmm, that's interesting, the Monarch doesn't have to face the will of the people!

People had a choice not to vote for Obama, that is the difference.

Yes, I posted a link to an article that shows the financial cost of a royal visit because I really mean that I wish to ban all visits from foreign dignitaries. However did you deconstruct my oh so carefully concealed code?

The Pope is a monarch (and an absolute one at that) - will you protest a visit to Canada by him?
Security for foreign visitors is the responsibility of every host nation. There is however only the one Pope if you want to be particular about it.

Do you really think that no royals will ever step foot in a Canadian republic (which Canadians will have to pay for, whereas they get their monarchy for free, because the British pay for it for them)?
Right, because it is the British who foot the bill for the Governor General and each of the Lieutenant Governors for each province, salaries, residences, travel, etc, in order that they may symbolically hold a place for the Queen.

It's the 21st century, royalty for the most part in most nations in the world, are little more than celebrities.

That people will turn up to see a celebrity.

a monarch stewards the money better than any politician would

I'd rather a treasurer do it with books that are open.

yeah funny how no politician seems to want to do that...I'm sure it is for our own good though...we wouldn't understand the necessity for some of the expenses

Like houses in PEI or jetting to Toronto for a private speaking engagement? Yeah we really don't understand that at all.

He only gets to do it for 8 years not 60+. He also gets a salary and temporary use of the palace (white house) which remains a public asset.

I didn't say ban them from visiting, I said we should not pay the outrageous costs. They are welcome but better bring their own security or pay our RCMP and be ready to pay for their own hotels, transportation, food, etc.
The Pope is a monarch (and an absolute one at that) - will you protest a visit to Canada by him?
Hell yeah!!! Not only do I think we shouldn't pay for him but we should ban him. He isn't royal in any way except maybe king of the pedophiles. Less than 50% of Canadians are catholic yet we are expected to pay for his visit. The world would be a much better place without the HRCC and banning the Poop, I mean pope, from visiting would get my vote.

I would love to see a Canada where no monarchs visit. I would love to see a world without monarchs. I said before, if they want to visit they can pay their own way or stay home.
And there's a reason the streets were absolutely packed when Wills and Kate visited, and it wasn't to throw dead cats and rotten vegetables at them.

It tells me there are still a whole lot of very stupid people out there who believe there is something special about an inbred family who steals their money.
