Why did they change their family name from a German name?

House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (/saːksˈkoʊˌbɜrɡəndˈɡoʊθə/; German: Haus Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha) is a German dynasty, the line of the Saxon House of Wettin that ruled the Ernestine duchies including the duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Founded by Ernest Anton, the sixth duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it is the royal house of several European monarchies, and branches currently reign in Belgium through the descendants of Leopold I, and in the Commonwealth realms through the descendants of Prince Albert. Due to anti-German sentiment in the United Kingdom during World War I, George V of the United Kingdom changed the name of his branch from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor in 1917. The same happened in Belgium where it was changed to "van België" (Dutch) or "de Belgique" (French).

Where's the German ancestry in these children on their mother's side?

Even on their father's side their great-grandfather was born on the Greek island of Corfu and their great-grandmother's mum - the Queen Mother - was more Scottish than anything.

There is no way these children are German. It's plain to see in black and white.

There is no way these children can in anyway be considered to be German. They've never even been to Germany. Their mother and maternal grandparents are English. Their father was born in the same hospital they were born in to an English mother and a half-Greek father.

I'm from the same "House of...." as one of them.

Bloodlines. Are you upset about Germanics ruling over Britannia?

Well? How about which one is Tsar Nick 2 and which is George V?

They are full blood Cousins.

Nope. These children definitely aren't German. They've got little German blood in them.

David Cameron is the great-great-great-great-grandson of the Hanoverian monarch William IV (the brother of George IV - previously the Prince Regent - and the uncle of Queen Victoria) which makes him a fifth cousin of Elizabeth II. Does this make David Cameron German, too?

You can't change DNA with geography.

There is nothing Brit about their DNA just like the Chinamen that runs the corner store. 4th Generation Canuck but he's is still a Chinaman.

Britain is a Prussian Germanic dynasty.

Actually, Hanover, which is where the Hanoverian monarchs came from, was in a personal union with Great Britain between 1714 and 1837. This stopped in 1837 when Victoria became Queen. She wasn't allowed to be Queen of Hanover, just as her forebears were kings of Hanover, as it operated a Semi-Salic law and wouldn't allow a woman to become its monarch.

It's not Germany that's the connection (it didn't even exist at the time), it's Hanover, which became the Kingdom of Hanover in 1814 by the Congress of Vienna with the restoration of George III to his Hanoverian territories after the Napoleonic era.

And still remain Germanic.

Sorry love.

Nope. Sorry. Disagree with you there.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have an English mother and English maternal grandparents. That makes them AT LEAST half-English. And then there's the English ancestry on their dad's side of the family.

Their father's father was born on Corfu into the Greek and Danish royal families and their great-great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, was mainly Scottish.

Really, there is very little that is "German" about these two children. They've never even been to Germany, let alone been born there. They've got more British blood in them than German.
