DAMNING new figures released by London Conservatives counsellors paint a bleak picture of violence in the capital since Sadiq Khan took over as Mayor.

‘The Cost of Khan 3’ report, commissioned by the GLA Conservatives, claims crime rates within London have increased extensively since Sadiq Khan took office three years ago. The report claims knife crime has increased by 52 percent, while residential burglaries are up by 37 percent and robberies by 59 percent over the last three years. Last year there were 135 murders - a 26 percent increase since 2016 and the highest homicide rate in the capital for more than a decade.

The report says: “Instead of demonstrating leadership on this issue, Sadiq Khan continues to adopt a ‘not me guv’ attitude.

“He has repeatedly blamed central Government for his failure to deal with rising crime and has pointed his finger even further afield with knife crime.

“Amongst other things, the Mayor has attempted to blame drill music, the middle classes and even boredom for the rise in knife crime.

“Sadiq Khan tries to avoid blame by stating that rising crime is a national problem, but Londoners expect the Mayor of London to do something rather than wring his hands helplessly and point fingers at other people.”

Why blame the Mayor?

Actually I would look at Brexit as a partial reason. Also rising tensions due to Brexit. Also, a cut/slash in spending for police forces.

The mayor may have some blame, but not all the blame.

Why not a sovereign Hong Kong?

If the Hong Kongians wish to be a sovereign state then the British should ally themselves with them to try and achieve that aim.

If they wish to be British again, then we should work to that.

I doubt they'll be tolerating Chinese rule for much longer though.

Hong Kong's struggle with China right now is quite reminiscent of Britain's struggle with the EU. Both are struggles for greater democracy.
