....coming to an Instant Teller near you.
In you opinion. To me it is about people who are stuck in the past and cannot grow with the rest of humanity.
And that is your personal prejudice. It is your judgmentalism that I find offensive.
You are the one spouting hatred. I'm quite happy pointing that out to you.
Wrong! I have said and still assert that I am agnostic because the existence of god cannot be proven in any way. You automatically assume that anyone who is anti religious is atheist but that is just plain silly. Religion is the bane of humanity and has caused more harm and destruction in the world than any other reason. It is the judgmental attitude of people like you that makes life difficult for many. If your god sanctions such archaic attitudes then I believe it to be a false god.
Agnosticism strikes me as the biggest cop out of all. It sits in judgement of all, but offers no moral assertions of its own. It casts its critiques from a seat of such ephemeral, transient and unsubstantive precepts, that it is impossible to see them as based on any hard moral architecture at all, simply observations from a floating platform that imposes no ethical standards on the observer.
Nothing is written, it leaves no trace, it elevates doubt from something that defines faith, through hard won contest, to something that becomes an idol itself. It capitulates to Doubt as the only true order that can counted on, but provides no proof of such, it couldn't be bothered. It stews in an amorphous resentment of those who chose faith, or reject it totally.
It's also the least courageous, and laziest, of all belief options available to us. At least atheists set down a hard set of principles in material dialectics that define obligations and outcomes. Theists likewise develop a moral and ethical framework based on faith precepts. both require the wherewithall to make a stand, occupy a position.
Agnostics don't do either, they just float in a resentful haze, that rejects all purpose and agency as vain.
Coldstream,
Let me put it to you this way. The bible is a work of fiction. The god portrayed in it is a psychotic lunatic. The Jesus myth is based of several older myths from the Egyptians, Persians and East Indians. If you think having faith in fairy tails is intellectually superior to not believing in such gibberish, then go ahead. Nobody is denying your right to be delusional. You belief that anyone who has no use for your religion is amoral is just egotistically judgmental.
Today, Anglicans by the hundred thousands. Tomorrow, millions!
400,000 former Anglicans worldwide seek immediate unity with Rome -Times Online
An Anglican Bridge Across the Tiber
The Vatican's Anglican provision is a dramatic slap-down of liberal Anglicanism and a total repudiation of the ordination of women, homosexual marriage and the general neglect of doctrine in Anglicanism. Indeed, it is a final rejection of Anglicanism. It basically interprets Anglicanism as a spiritual patrimony based on ethnic tradition rather than substantial doctrine and makes clear that it is not a historic “church” but rather an “ecclesial community” that strayed and now is invited to return to communion with the Pope as Successor of Peter.
Further proof that the present pope would like the church to return to the dark ages. Let's bring back the glory days and the power of the Inquisition. The world moves forward and the church moves backwards. Why am I not surprised?
The new pope wants to reinstate good sense? Awesome! Then the RCC will keep its nose in its own backyard and quit telling the population of the world how to live.Wrong again, Cliffy. It's not the Inquisition, but order, good sense and light that Pope Benedict wants to reinstate.. from the imposters who have attempted to use the Church to impose a social agenda of confusion and decay.
