Conservative tactics. Push polls, misconstruations, half-truths, outright lies, claiming to have values, mixing religion and politics, threatening Alberta separatism. We've heard the hateful rhetoric of the right. We've seen this before, in the US. We don't want it here in Canada.

New poll this morning has Cons. slipping while Liberals gain a bit. Nothing new here.

That seems to be the trend.

Ive been a Liberal supporter for years but as I said earlier, "Mulroney killed the only viable opposition party, so I was forced to hold my nose and vote for the liberals again even though I don't like to see one party in for more than two terms consecutively. I don't see the CPC to be a suitable party for our government. They are too damned right wing and too tied to the U.S. to be good for our country. I don't hate the Conservatives but until I see a more transparent platform and a leader I can trust, I will vote Liberal.

Ah, finally...somebody who has an understanding of politics.

I don't think that Martin is terribly transparent, Juan...especially when it comes to the US. He made statements that make his present stance on the Iraq war questionable. He pushed hard for BMD. He's been very slow on trade issues. He's supported deep integration initiatives.

He's better than Harper for sure, because he at least listened to Canadians on BMD. Would he have done the same if he were in a majority government though?

I'm probably as guilty as anyone of "strategic voting". In the current situation, the strategy calls for an effective vote against Harper as opposed to say, voting NDP who I have some sympathy with. I just think it is important that Harper not be elected. One more failed election should just about finish Harper.

Don't let the scare tactics keep you from voting Conservative. Even if you believe all of it, the most optimistic outcome for the Cons would be a slim minority. In this case they would be unable to implement the 'scary' parts of their agenda.

That would depend on what your local race looks like then, Juan. If it's between a Liberal and a Conservative with the NDP running a distant third, then the Liberals make sense as a place to park your vote. The Harperites won several seats because of people voting Liberal to keep Harper out the last time though.

Given the polls, I actually question the use of any strategic voting this time out anyway. The Liberals are creeping into majority territory and even if there's a complete turnaround all Harper can get is a minority government.

He can do no harm in a minority and would most likely have his government fall within months, which would finish his party and it's policies for good.
