Yea, most people find out they're further left than the party line has fed them. Being all the way to the right is kind of kookie.

There are some people on this forum who would be comfortable and happy in the company of Mugabe and Stalin, - and no doubt, they are - but would they tell me why Pope Benedict XVI belongs with them and those two worthies?

Why doesn't his political viewpoint land there on the spectrum? It seems a perfect fit to me.

What you're perhaps missing or overlooking, is the fact that this graph is a measure of only two spectrums of the whole that makes up an individual. It is not saying that the Pope is 'in company' with Mugabe or Stalin, but that their political ideologies share some points. I land near the Dalai Lama, it doesn't mean I can pretend I resemble him in any way but the two narrowly defined spectrums represented.

kerrie, for you to say that you must have been right at his side when Pope Benedict XVI gave his answers on this phony 'test'. Also, right there, next to Stalin, Mugabe and Mamoud Abbas.

I hope that AnnaG kept you good company in your travels.

This 'test' is about as valid as a three-dollar bill. Good for a laugh, though!

kerrie, since I don't believe this 'test' is valid, where I think I would place the Pope is a moot point.

But no matter how anti-Catholic, anti-religion, anti-decency and anti-Christian one is, placing Pope Benedict with Stalin, Abbas and Mugabe in the same category is nothing short of absurd.

Unless he is accompanied by Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.

The 'test' is a measure of whether you're left-leaning or right leaning, and whether you're more libertarian or authoritarian.

Historical and public figures are measured by their public views.

You could hardly argue with where the pope is placed on this chart, based on his ideology. It's not anti-Catholic, it's reality.

You can't argue that the Catholic Church is a believer in libertarianism. That's crazy talk. Catholics are expected to follow doctrine. Therefore, it leans toward authoritarianism.

Well, you're talking to a Catholic, so, attempting to label me as 'anti' in this discussion is pointless.

As for Mandela and the Dalai Lama, the graph puts the Pope as near to their political ideologies as it does to Mugabe, the only way he moves far away from them is on 'authoritarianism', and the graph shows Mugabe as even more 'authoritarian', and even more 'left'.

kerrie, as a Catholic you know that in our Church the Pope is, has to be, by definition, authoritarian. Roman Catholicism is NOT a smorgasbord, where you take what you like, and criticize the rest.

For that reason, alone this test is a fraud.

With respect I don't follow your logic YukonJack (and I will not stoop to repeatedly mis-spelling your name). It is authoritarian, and thus the Pope is authoritarian, but showing him on a political spectrum as such is flawed?

This may surprise some people (it somewhat surprised me), but after answering all questions as honestly as I could, I ended up with this

I'm not surprised at all.
Me, either.

There are some people on this forum who would be comfortable and happy in the company of Mugabe and Stalin, - and no doubt, they are - but would they tell me why Pope Benedict XVI belongs with them and those two worthies?
I did. Pay attention.

........... like your comprehension of political science. Exactly. Good for a laugh.

So where do you feel his views fit and why?

kerrie, since I don't believe this 'test' is valid, where I think I would place the Pope is a moot point.
.... which means he hasn't a clue.

But no matter how anti-Catholic, anti-religion, anti-decency and anti-Christian one is, placing Pope Benedict with Stalin, Abbas and Mugabe in the same category is nothing short of absurd.
Only if you cannot understand that two people with completely different characters can share the same political ideologies.

Unless he is accompanied by Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
The pope? Not even close.

kerrie, I sincerely and most humbly apologize for mispelling your name.

It was done with no less respect than what is displayed by those lazy bums who constantly and repeatedly abbreviate other people's names.

How many times I said that it's YukonJack, not YJ?

AnnaG, what in the Heck is "polisci"? Are you incapable of using your mother tongue correctly?

I consistently, upon said request, call you YukonJack, and yet, even while apologizing for doing so, you call me kerrie, and attempt to lump me in with other people whose actions I am not responsible for. I have no desire to engage in such petty exchange.

So because other people misspell your net name, you have to misspell Karrie's? That is freakin childish.

Grow up, child. Polisci is the common shortened form of "political science".
