Why doesn't his political viewpoint land there on the spectrum? It seems a perfect fit to me.
What you're perhaps missing or overlooking, is the fact that this graph is a measure of only two spectrums of the whole that makes up an individual. It is not saying that the Pope is 'in company' with Mugabe or Stalin, but that their political ideologies share some points. I land near the Dalai Lama, it doesn't mean I can pretend I resemble him in any way but the two narrowly defined spectrums represented.

The 'test' is a measure of whether you're left-leaning or right leaning, and whether you're more libertarian or authoritarian.
Historical and public figures are measured by their public views.
You could hardly argue with where the pope is placed on this chart, based on his ideology. It's not anti-Catholic, it's reality.
You can't argue that the Catholic Church is a believer in libertarianism. That's crazy talk. Catholics are expected to follow doctrine. Therefore, it leans toward authoritarianism.

As for Mandela and the Dalai Lama, the graph puts the Pope as near to their political ideologies as it does to Mugabe, the only way he moves far away from them is on 'authoritarianism', and the graph shows Mugabe as even more 'authoritarian', and even more 'left'.
kerrie, as a Catholic you know that in our Church the Pope is, has to be, by definition, authoritarian. Roman Catholicism is NOT a smorgasbord, where you take what you like, and criticize the rest.
