Stop being obtuse.

Here's just one example of the racist and thuggish attitude of our "police" forces. Brown shirt fits them quite nicely.

Another reason BC should get rid of the RCMP and form their own force once again. We need accountability from our police and the RCMP is not providing either transparency or peace keeping these days. It is sad to see how far they have fallen from their once proud heritage.

Watch you don't "throw the baby out with the bath water"!

How does that relate to police brutality in Canada and the US?

It doesn't!

This is true. I have thought about it: if the RCMP cannot attract the caliber of people they need, how will a BC force attract the caliber of people they need? None the less, I hear our government is considering it because of stuff like tasering and beatings that are unjustified.

To put a little sanity into this thread there are about 6000 R.C.M.P. in B.C. - in the past few years we've heard about the four A$$holes at Vancouver airport, the Mantler A$$hole in Kelowna, a couple of other A$$holes around Kelowna, the A$$hole in Kamloops that tasered the 84 year old guy in the hospital bed and probably half a dozen other A$$holes. So let's say for sake of argument there are 25 A$$holes on the force. That is 0.4% Now if you look at the Vancouver City Cops one cop just got 3 years in prison for selling dope out of the police cruiser and 6 cops got severely punished for beat up a druggie in Stanley Park, and a couple of cops got in supreme sh*t for beating up a newspaper carrier. I say the R.C.M.P. aren't all that bad. The worst aspect of them is they do go overboard protecting the A$$holes.

You forgot the one that shot a man in the back of the head in self defense up in Burns Lake(?).

We have OPP in Ontario and still get instances of Brutality. This disbandment thing reeks of ignorance based on hysteria.

Remember when they disbanded the Airborne regiment after all those horrible videos appeared of hazing and racism? What you never heard on the news was that a new Colonel came in and cleaned house, got rid of all the bad apples and set down standing orders which completely changed the environment. After eight ore nine months, two year old video ends up on television and the remaining soldiers who were not involved and their Unit was was disbanded because of knee jerk reactions.

The news never reported that.

I'm not being obtuse. Nazi's did far worse things than police brutality.

Who was defending the actions of these police.

The one that shot Ian Bush, that one was inconclusive. There should never have been one cop by himself in a situation like that.

His story was more full of holes than Swiss cheese. How do you shoot someone in the back of the head while he is on top of you. That one sounded like a cover up, not inconclusive.

As long as your arm is long enough no problem. I followed that case fairly close and think the cop deserves the benefit of the doubt, the victim started the aggression. J.M.H.O.

I don't get why any of you think anything will change. Police will still need jobs. BC does not have the time to train enough officers to take over. Offices will have to be purchased for starters. Trained personnel will have be hired, so those RCMP who are already in place, will simply be allowed to carry over their pensions (Correctional staff does this if they move from Corrections to the police). Then, the whole province, once on a provincial force will have greater union power to demand higher wages. Do remember they have great benefits packages. The RCMP is not allowed to form a union and yes - the unionized provincial force will be deemed essential services but that will not stop them from a "work to rule" program to get what they want. People focus on the wrong doings of the RCMP but seem to glance over the wrong doings of any city police. So - it's my belief that we will pay more for police services and the same people will continue on like they never left because they will not have, only wearing a ever so slightly different uniform. Then, when something goes wrong (and it will), the RCMP will be called in from some other province, to see why!!

You are right JLM except for one thing. The courts go overboard protecting the A. holes.

That's your defense of thick skulled jack booted bullies? Clifford Olson? Your time away hasn't increased your IQ I see.
I see your contributions have not increased beyond un-necessary insults. My IQ is 120 - what's yours?

At one time we had a provincial police farce and from what I've been told by old timers it was even more corrupt than the RCMP. Apparently officers could stay in one community indefinitely which led to lots of graft and corruption.

Hey Ron! Thanks. How are ya?

You always have sensible answers TS. I know that the RCMP are not your favourite people but you still took the time to think it through and see the end result. Up to about the last 10 years, that's exactly what happened with many city police forces. Times change. The RCMP changed but they have recognized that they have a problem. It'll get cleaned up but it's not going to happen overnight.

I can see that happening for the simple minded such as yourself.
Have a laugh gerry. It's good for the soul.

Seriously? Projections of THEIR own deviations? The US Liberals were the ones that came up with the "Tea Baggers". What a bunch of bigots and homophobes.
Horse sh!t. The term was used by these reich wing bigots for themselves and they even openly display it:

'A protester was spotted with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You.” So, conservatives started it: started with this terminology. But others ran with it and ran with it. 'Some on the right are using “teabagger,” ... Some conservatives are happy to embrace “teabagger,” ... from National Review:

Rise of an Epithet by Jay Nordlinger - National Review Online

This explains why the forum right wingers love the expression and are so obsessed with it. As always, they project their deviations but are fooling no one but their deviant selves.

Well that explains the obsession with tea bagging then

The only ones obsessed with tea bagging is you right wingers. The article from National Review explains why. ;)
