…the U.S., which, unlike Canada, has never imposed a national carbon tax on its citizens.
Can I be a climate-denying, planet-destroying triceratops?

They're SO cool!
You can!! But….but though the U.S. Hasn’t imposed this weight upon its citizenry, it still reduced its emissions much more so (apparently) than Canada has…so maybe there’s a better way for Canada, & you’re failing at being a climate-denying, planet-destroying triceratops, so you might just have to try harder.

Personally I get why the carbon tax is disliked.

I am on the fence about it.

We do need to do SOMETHING, but if we can have something better than the tax, I'd be all for that.

What I DON'T agree with is doing nothing at all because "China..."

Except even China is stepping up, so...

Given their massive populations and the fact that countries typically increase their emissions as they become more developed, China and India may continue to grow their shares even further. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that India’s share of global emissions could rise to 10% by 2030.
What I don't agree with is doing nothing because the country one hates and fears is doing nothing. Doesn't that put one on their level?
The US seems to be doing something right.

What is the US doing that Canada isn’t? I don’t know the answer to that but maybe there’s a better way than what we as Canadians have had imposed upon us.

Both Canada and the U.S. have set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40-45% and 50-52%, respectively, by 2030 relative to their 2005 levels. But as of 2021, emissions had fallen by only 8.5% in Canada and 15.2% in the U.S.

All of these major contributors of carbon to the atmosphere have set goals to reduce emissions over the next decades. While the U.S. targets net-zero emissions by 2050, China aims for carbon neutrality by 2060 and India recently set a target of 2070….so with targets of 2050 to 2070, what date has Canada chosen to rush into in a plan to pre-fail (?) & why that date?

Here's the pitch: Let's tax fuel so people will change their behavior and thus reduce emissions.

Here's the reality: They didn't alter people's behavior because not everyone lives in a city (the most significant polluters) and has public transit.

Here are the facts:
  1. The tax that some claim is not a tax did not lower emissions or planet temperatures.
  2. The carbon tax was essentially another GST. The model for implementation collection and distribution is almost identical.
  3. Fuel moves everything in this country.
  4. The tax, along with government spending, has driven up inflation.
  5. Middle-class families nationwide are struggling. Some live in their cars, vans, campers, and motorhomes.
  6. The Liberals were funneling money from the tax slush fund they created into their own projects and businesses, using the millions for their own purposes.
  7. Our House Speaker has ordered the Liberals to hand over the documents, but they are in the shitter trying to flush the evidence.
This whole thing was a Liberal Ponzi scheme, and the Canadian people were the mark.

China is not really "stepping up" at all. While they may be producing lots of EV's, they're STILL building coal fired plants. The carbon tax is simply spreading the wealth around without doing anything it's supposed to do. Technology is the answer, plain & simply. It'll be a lot cheaper long-term as well.

The carbon tax is also taxed with…GST.

So is the carbon tax a “Goods” or a “Service”?
Fuel moves everything in this country.
For 5 months of the year, the fuel that heats our homes also keeps us alive.
Middle-class families nationwide are struggling. Some live in their cars, vans, campers, and motorhomes.
…& not without fuel for at least November through April.
This whole thing was a Liberal Ponzi scheme, and the Canadian people were the mark.
I don’t know how current the mapping program on my phone is, but this:

Today, is a significant homeless encampment, & this:
1731251395100.jpeg
Today, is a significant homeless encampment, and I can go on and on like this, but these two are within 10 blocks of our home.

There’s another, one our street, on our block, that we’ve been dealing with since the Sping with its rampant crime & garbage & 24/7 traffic & police/ambulance attendance at least daily if not several times a day, etc…

This wasn’t like this for 10 years ago, and it wasn’t like this to this extent five years ago, & this is the Canadian Prairie and November 10th. I’m assuming not the top of priority for these people in tents, this morning, is Trudeau is saving the world one carbon tax at a time (hopefully one at a time).

Not this Saturday that just passed, but the one before, was an extremely busy day for me. After working all week, I got to Saturday morning and a neighbour/friend needed help. His wife’s relative had passed away and they’re trying to clean out her three-story apartment, and he needed help getting furniture down to ground level and trucks….& I put in a couple hours there before I had to get home to help my wife-type’s SUV loaded for an aquarium Society meeting, so that I could find time to play here a little bit while getting ready for a funeral in the early afternoon, in order to get from the funeral to elsewhere to purchase a winch for one of our trucks that I wouldn’t have time to do during the next week, etc….& that was all just in the “first part” of the day….

….& on the way to the first mission of the morning, we stopped at a Tim Hortons (corner of 11th Ave & Broad.
1731252019482.jpeg
On the way to grab 4 to-go coffee’s, we were panhandled three times before getting in the door, & there was a guy out front, literally taking a shit in the front corner of the building.

We got inside and we’re second in line behind one person buying a coffee, before we could pay for our coffees, the police rolled in (The restaurant was full), and I couldn’t hear what was being said, but everybody in the entire entire restaurant got up and walked out the front door except for the three of us in line & one table with three people on it.

Turns out everybody else in the entire coffee shop were not customers. It was crazy. Three police SUV’s & 6 officers at 8:35am to flush one coffee shop…& I’m told that happened several times a day? This is also also Kitty corner across the street from the police station.
1731253478128.jpeg
(that entire complex connected by the red line above, is the main portion of the police station in Regina, with several other smaller satellite stations, & stealth buildings in other areas in the city)

I don’t like this, & I don’t know what the answer is, but I know that whatever’s going on currently isn’t working. What’s the commonality here for the last decade? Is it the current government? I don’t know, but I’m willing to change that to see what difference it makes.
I’m fairly confident in assuming that the three homeless camps that I’m talking about specifically (out of many many more) aren’t hoping to avoid global warming by any means necessary.

I don’t think the carbon tax (& the GST tax on the carbon tax) are helping with this situation, & is really a misplaced priority when you stop and just look around, or tried to purchase food at a grocery store, or just try to eat your home, assuming you still have one, or just try to get back-and-forth to work every day so you can maintain that home, etc…

Try explaining that to the socialists that insist corporations must pay their fair share.
Hell, I think we should tax ONLY corporations. Simplify collection and reduce costs. And the tiny fraction of the population who will deliberately avoid doing any business with corporations to avoid tax. . . well, that's their choice. Go all Jeremiah Johnson and shit. Won't be enough of 'em to make a difference.

You think climate change is a 21 century thing? Fact is climate has always changed. Ever hear about a thing called Ice Ages? We are still coming out of one.

And see, you've just exposed you don't know a thing about why climate change NOW is a bad thing.

It's actually happening, it's not some "Fake" thing, and it's happened quicker than any climate change should have.

I mean, I'm not that old but the climate in my area has changed that drastically we might as well be in a different climate zone.

You have to be a minimum of 90 years old to claim youve seen climate change.

But Leonardo DiCaprio saw climate change a few years back while filming a movie in or near Calgary! I remember reading about that a few years back….
