Who is making all this money everyone is always talking about?? The box-office returns on Gore's film, is THAT where all this phantom bread is getting tossed??

I don't get the argument that someone is somehow getting filthy rich- it suggests that alll the hardworking industries/corporations are getting left out in the cold (no pun intended) and some kind of Eco-villain is siphoning all the money into their own greedy pockets- I can't see that happening in ANY segment of our society really, so could someone expand on this obvious talking point or maybe just abandon it- it really does sound silly, the "THEM" doesn't exist I don't think (much like many other "them"s used in place of actual facts to get folks all whipped up, but that's another topic)

Where to begin?

1.All these scientists that are coming out with these studies do not pay for that research out of their own pockets. They are funded by large lobby groups. If these lobby groups create a hysteria, they can bilk countless dollars out of governments.

2.Environmentalists can fetch a pretty penny to "advise" companies and or countries.

3. Al Gore is making millions and he isn't even a scientist. Could he be doing this to fill his coffers at a run for the Oval office?

4. Where are the BILIIONS of dollars of carbon credits going to go? Who will administer these funds? Who will track this money? How will we know that all this money is being spent to combat GW? What happens to the countries that spend this money inappropraitely? Will the UN send troops in to take billions of dollars back?

1. Lobby groups? How many scientists do you think are paying for the research with their own money? Niflmir breaks it down very well here.

2. Well, the advisors typically are environmental science grads or environmental engineers. Who would you prefer to advise on environmental issues?

3. If you want to beat that dead horse, so be it. Theres a whole thread discussing that issue.

4. The Chicago Climate exchange has been running since 2003. All members of the exchange are required to make regular emission cuts as part of their membership. The European method of trading emission credits is flawed no doubt about that.

Thanks for your post Tonington but the fact still remains that there are people making money off the global warming hysteria.

I was simply answering the question.

Can you at least agree that there are millions if not billons more spent on these studies now than in the past? The money is ending up in someones pocket right?

Hey, we didn't spend much on Cancer research (and let's not get into THAT debate here) in the 1800's either, so of course there's money being spent

How much profit is being "protected" by the Lobbies on the "everythings fine and these folks are nuts" side of the fence?? Think it evens everything out??

I am not even going to bother talking to our lofty left Liberals here. (seems everything the Cons. do is bad and everything the Libs. do is awesone! They obviously wear rose-coloured classes when it comes to their all mighty Liberal party)

I have some anger towards Harper.. I think health care was put on the back burner in his government, but I would sure the heck take him over all the other parties.

Its always either Con or Lib, NDP, Bloc, Green, etc. are sh*t disturbers.

Oh and I live in a province (MB) where we have a NDP Provincial gov. and I don't care for it too much. Gary Doer has been in 8 years, and the people of Manitoba are getting pretty darn sick of him. MB is having an election VERY soon, just needs to be called. The Conservative party of MB will get a minority or majority here. People are sick of our NDP provincial gov.

And I used to be NDP provincially!!!!
