He speaks as if the President has the authority to do away with Executive departments (the President doesn't).

Also, awkward.

The Republican candidates have just been crucifying each other in those debates. They have shown themselves to be badly uninformed on the issues and have offered absolutely nothing by way of solutions to society's problems. Further, they fail to exercise or admit responsibility on the part of their party for some of society's problems. Note how Cain at first faulted Perry for his sex scandals. Then he blames Democrats even though Sharon Bialek (his most vocal critic) is a Republican and admitted Tea Bagger! The party has done an absolutely terrible job of presenting itself before the public. Luckily, the news media has been very tame in its criticism of the candidates and their deficiencies.

All the Democrats have to do is use Republican video clips for advertising. I am not
surprised the Republicans would do away with the education department though.
This bunch are all nuts in my view.

Most politicians wait until they've been elected before forgetting their campaign promises. Guess he's just ahead of the game.

Canada does not have a federal education department because it's a provicial responsibility. In the US they have a national education department even though it's the states' reponsibility. A classic case of government redundancy.

Rick Perry proves he is a bigger idiot that most of us already suspected...
Most Americans wish their state were run as well as Texas is run. Perry's been governor for 10 prosperous years in Texas. Very poor debater though.

The Department of Energy has done absolutely nothing since its inception in 1977. We still have no energy policy that it was created to do. Just another worthless government agency. As for Perry, he is obviously not a debater.

I'm going to cut, you know, one of those places...

If he was a good debator, he would have laughed, and said, 'It's so unimportant that we can't even remember what it's called'. That would have shown his ability to think on his feet. Or maybe, 'it's so unimportant, they don't even have sexual harassment there'

The bit was sad to watch. Never been a fan of Perry myself.

Newt is your man. Smarter and way more experienced than just about any politician out there. A Master-debater, so to speak.

No they don't. I'm in western PA and have friends/family in various parts of the US: even Republicans wouldn't/don't want Perry in charge of their state or country. My sister lives in Houston and her only hope about Perry getting the nomination is that he would resign as governor of Texas (and she supported G.W. Bush!). Texas' "prosperity" is largely an accident of geography, similar to my old home in Northern Alberta and in some cases is in spite of the stewardship of the government (i.e. like Alberta under Stelmach).

I hate to say it, but Newt (never cared to much for him) and Huntsman just might be the smartest one's out there, but neither has a chance at this time.

video clips for advertising

That's exactly what they're going to do. The Republicans have given them MUCH fodder.

do away with the education department

These debates prove why the department needs to stay!

nuts

No argument there. Somebody needs to tell them they are killing their party's chances of victory. But nobody is complaining just yet.

''10 prosperous years in Texas''

Texas had a massive deficit. One that was ended when Perry accepted Obama's stimulus bailout. This ironically after Perry criticized the bailout program! Further, no state in the Union (except for Republican Alaska) gets more Federal dollars poured into it every year than does Texas.
