You go sink someone's fishing boat because you don't approve of what they are doing and you'll soon find out how much of a villain you are.

Do a little reading JLM. The Sea Shepherd only goes after whalers that are illegally taking whales. Most whaling countries
have stopped because the market for whale products has dried up......Thanks to the Japanese, there are thousand of tons of whale
meat in freezers in Japan that nobody wants.

I wasn't aware that he sank anyone's fishing boat. If that boat was illegally taking whales, it should have been sunk. I do know that Watson has made the hunting of whales too expensive, which was the whole point of the operation.

It's not up to Watson to interpret whether or not someone is breaking the law. A whale is just another specy of animal that is going to drop dead one day. Certainly the specy should be saved for posterity, but that doesn't make the individual any more special than say a hog or a cow or a salmon. Whale products can be very useful............something Paul Watson will never be, just a fat, arrogant doughhead!

I think it is YOU that needs to do some reading and not taking watsons word as being gospel.

It seems animal fanatics have two main problems- one is they don't mind their own business and two is they think they know more than everyone else.

much like a few of the greenie weenies on here.

Thing is Watson does not get to decide if the whale is caught legally or not. And like most truthers he is attacking the wrong end. You do not go after those that are trying to earn a legal living to stop something you don't personally like. Rather you dry up the market and presto- no more industry.

Being against the hunting of whales is a simple personal choice. Can one say the same about defending people who would openly attempt risking lives to advance their cause?

That is a very good point. For example if the protection of a species is at stake, stopping someone from killing an intelligent being, punishing someone for walking into a third world village and slaughtering innocent men women and children,

I expect that if the cause is close enough most of us can justify defending the risking of lives.

And the drying up seems to be working too if reports of unwanted whale meat hang around. I've seen reports on both sides about Watsons relative ethics and I'll wait until a legal court decides on any given issue. But I also know that when you are convinced of the need for action the best approach is to have as many approaches as possible.

The Watson-Worshippers on this thread really a bunch of ignorant dorks.

FYI-Whale meat in Japan is Old People's Food-IOW the market is dying a natural death as are Whale meat eaters.

Tell me-when was the last time any of you ate a suet pudding?

How many here even know what one is?

Christmas pudding, Lard, you don't think that there are people who don't know what it is?

The question is-who eats that sh!t anymore?

Do you know anyone under the age of 60 who does?

Or has heard of it?

Or who bakes with lard?

LARD FFS???

Because I sure don't and I know literally hundreds & hundreds of people-it's something from a distant past-similar to how Whale meat is regarded in Japan.

As those octogenarian & even nonagenarian Whale meat eaters die off the political landscape in Japan will change-but for the moment they still hold a lot of political power in their rural strongholds and that's life.

A couple hundred Whales either way counts for SFA.

First of all, I opened this topic with a line about Watson skipping $320,000.00 bail. I was wrong, he didn't. He paid
the bail to get out of jail.

There was a moratorium on killing whales. Japan got around this by getting a "licence" to take a hundred whales for "research". Remember the 6000 tons of whale meat? What sort of research was that? Watson thought the "research" was BS
and so did most people. He also thought the taking of tons of shark fins right off the live sharks and throwing the live sharks back
minus the fins was despicable and it was. Japan and other whaling countries were cheating. Watson decided that if Japan and
other whaling countries could cheat, so could he. Basically, Watson has been harassing Whalers and other cheaters to the point
where it is no longer profitable.
Watson was arrested in Germany. Does Germany have a whaling fleet? No, but Costa Rica made a deal with Germany and Japan
to get Watson and they did. Watson didn't hang around to get shipped to Costa Rica where he would never be heard from again and I don't blame him.

I don't agree with everything Watson did but He did pretty well get whaling stopped, and that is good. Unfortunately, Watson now has governments after him and they will kill him if they get a chance.

Juan... why is it only Watson that is getting in trouble? He went after the Faroes islanders because of their grinds... whale killing. They also go after Tuna Fleets and traps. Do you eat tuna?

I am surprised you say that whaling ships should be sunk if they are illegally whaling. Real surprised. If they are legally whaling should the whalers have the right to sink all the Sea Shepherds? The Japanese whaling fleet could make quick work of the Steve Irwin and Bob Barker if they wished. They could put those two ships on the bottom in a heart beat.

Except of course to the whales. As to us old folk we will die out and it would be nice to think that our bad habits will die with us. But, a lot of people have been doing everything they can to capitalize on our market share and you can bet that they are going to try to prolong such a cash flow even if it means rendering lard for the next generation and doing their damnedist to sell it to them. Same with whale meat, and if they are successful more whales will be killed to satisfy the market. That ain't sfa.

Where is it carved in stone that "whaling should be stopped"? I personally think whaling should be continued at a sustainable level! If you keep too many whales alive then too many other species are being sacrficed. There is nothing sacred about a whale...........now if it was Doves I could see it!

JLM of the 11 species of great whales, 7 are endangered and whales have been here longer than man

We continue to dump our sewage, our garbage, and God knows what chemicals into the rivers and oceans. If we can't kill them one way
we'll find another. Canada has been one of the worst polluters on the planet.

Bill, you don't know what you are talking about. My wife makes mincemeat and she puts beef suet in it just like my
mother did. I've never heard of anyone using any whale by-product to make mincemeat.

That's exactly what I'm talking about-it's Old People's Food just like Whale in Japan-try and find a contemporary restaurant anywhere that offers 'Mincemeat with Added Suet'-you won't find one anywhere maybe try @ the Old Folks Home.
