Although I did answer before about your suspicion that you cast in the minds to make some illusion:

God – be glorified – is All-Knowing; but such trial is only to prove practically that this person does indeed believe;

by trying him in various ways of fear and security, danger and safety, disease and health, poverty and riches, etc. until his true belief (or his wavering and doubting) will be verified practically,

so that he will have his deserved rank and grade, and before all creatures he will be manifested to deserve his position either to the side of the belief or to the side of the blasphemy and associating [patrons] with God.

Moreover, how can he be judged for anything he had not done before whether good or bad?

Canada used to have a more balanced view than the United States of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Now both the Conservative government and the Liberal opposition are competing to see who can be more pro-Israel. That's their right. They will reap their reward or take their lumps in the next election.

But equally clearly, their narrative is divorced from the reality of the conflict: the reality of how most of the world, including human rights organizations, views what Israel did in Gaza, and the emerging reality of a policy shift in Europe and even the U.S.

The Tory-Liberal position is also out of tune with Canadians in general and a grassroots movement in particular, including an increasingly vocal minority of Jewish Canadians, against Israeli excesses.

The Gaza operation, besides all the unconscionable horrors it inflicted on the essentially defenceless Gazans, has proven costly for Israel. Israel not only stands accused of operating out of the bounds of international law and norms, it failed to achieve its main objective: destroying Hamas.

The leadership of Hamas is intact despite the bombing blitz. Gazans have not risen up against Hamas, nor is their spirit broken, despite the killing and maiming of their kith and kin, as well as the destruction of their homes and homeland. In fact, Hamas has emerged stronger – just as Hezbollah did after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006.

Mahmoud Abbas, Israel's current favourite interlocutor, and Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, Israel's staunchest Arab ally, are seen as accomplices in the Gaza tragedy. A poll last week showed Abbas trailing Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh for president....

"There has been a real shift over the last few years where being a marginalized troublemaker is less marginalized and more acceptable," Sears said.

That seems in tune with broad Canadian sentiment. The annual BBC World Service Poll, based on interviews with 13,500 people in 21 countries and released last month, showed that while Germany and Canada enjoyed the highest ratings, the three most negatively rated countries were Iran, Israel and Pakistan...

Israel arrests Hamas members

Israel has detained at least 10 senior Hamas members in the occupied West Bank, according to officials from the Palestinian group.

Nasser al-Shaer, a former Palestinian deputy prime minister and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was also held on Thursday.

The arrests took place in the West Bank cities of Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus.
The Israeli army confirmed the arrests, saying the men were wanted by Israeli security and intelligence services and that they "were taken in for questioning".

Hamas says the detainees include four Hamas politicians, three of whom have already served time in Israeli custody...

IDF in Gaza: Killing civilians, vandalism, and lax rules of engagement

During Operation Cast Lead, Israeli forces killed Palestinian civilians under permissive rules of engagement and intentionally destroyed their property, say soldiers who fought in the offensive....

..."There was a house with a family inside .... We put them in a room. Later we left the house and another platoon entered it, and a few days after that there was an order to release the family. (eao: sure sounds like using human shields to me) They had set up positions upstairs. There was a sniper position on the roof," the soldier said.

"The platoon commander let the family go and told them to go to the right. One mother and her two children didn't understand and went to the left, but they forgot to tell the sharpshooter on the roof they had let them go and it was okay, and he should hold his fire and he ... he did what he was supposed to, like he was following his orders."

According to the squad leader: "The sharpshooter saw a woman and children approaching him, closer than the lines he was told no one should pass. He shot them straight away....

...the company commander ordered that an elderly Palestinian woman be shot and killed; she was walking on a road about 100 meters from a house the company had commandeered.

The squad leader said he argued with his commander over the permissive rules of engagement that allowed the clearing out of houses by shooting without warning the residents beforehand. After the orders were changed, the squad leader's soldiers complained that "we should kill everyone there [in the center of Gaza]. Everyone there is a terrorist."

Through an "enormous web of unlawful practices" that entailed systematic human rights violations, Israel was causing severe devastation and damage to Palestinian society, the observer for Palestine said today....


...."Even under the aegis of a peace process, Israel continued to breach all human rights standards," the observer for Palestine said, referring to the numerous examples provided in the Special Committee's report of Palestinian civilians being killed, injured, imprisoned, displaced and collectively punished. (Note: this is during a truce?)

She stressed that Israel had, for decades, relentlessly pursued a two-dimensional policy, namely the brutalization and oppression of the Palestinian people, and the confiscation and colonization of the land. Every sector of life had been disrupted, and poverty, hunger, disease and unemployment continued to rise. Further, these illegal actions undermined the peace process....

...The Special Committee was particularly concerned, he said, about the long-term impact of Israeli policies and practices infringing on Palestinians' human rights. Israel's closure of Gaza had had a serious impact on economic and social rights, disabling the economy and posing a wider threat to the environment. Meanwhile, within the West Bank, three separate entities -- described by witnesses as "enclaves", "cantons" and " Bantustans" -- had been created. Family ties had been severed, as had the Palestinians' links to their land. It was feared that the situation would have a significant impact on the whole society and, particularly, on Palestinian children, who made up half of Gaza's population.

Against that backdrop, he reiterated the Special Committee's belief that protection of human rights was an essential element for ongoing peace efforts, and emphasized its request for the General Assembly to encourage the Quartet ( United Nations, Russian Federation, United States, European Union) to fully implement the Road Map and move towards a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement.

During the general debate, a number of speakers expressed cautious optimism that the fragile ceasefire in Gaza would bring real humanitarian relief and provide firmer ground for the ongoing peace process....

Ironically at the same time the UN members made their optimistic statements about the Gaza ceasefire (which apparently does not require Israel to ceasefiring or allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza), this event was unfolding in Gaza:

BTW, Gazans still suffer chronic malutrition and disease as a result of Israel's nearly two year crippling blockade which prevents the free flow of international food and medical aid from entering Gaza. No wonder most of the world sees Israel on par with Pakistan and Iran.

Holocaust victims' ashes to be buried at Sachsenhausen

POTSDAM - German officials plan next week to bury the ashes of thousands killed in the Nazis' Sachsenhausen concentration camp after they were discovered during building work at the site, the director of the camp memorial said Wednesday.

Archaeologists last year found a layer of ashes up to 1.5 meters thick underneath a concrete building constructed near the camp's former crematorium by East Germany's communist authorities as a memorial, director Guenter Morsch said.
[What does thickness matter without knowing length and width?]
Morsch said it was impossible to establish the number or identity of the victims whose cremated remains were found, but estimated that "there are tens of thousands."
[But where does tens of thousands come from?]
Some 200,000 people, including political prisoners, captives from Poland, Soviet POWs as well as Jews, were interned at Sachsenhausen, north of Berlin, between 1936 and 1945, and tens of thousands died. "At the end of the Nazi regime, the SS tried to cover up the crimes committed at Sachsenhausen, and to do that they plowed the ashes of the dead into the ground over a wide area," burying them under a layer of earth, Morsch told reporters.
On March 29, memorial officials plan to bury the ashes in 150 urns at the Sachsenhausen site, each with a capacity of 30 kilograms, Morsch said.
[One assumes respect for the dead means this will be all the remains.]
The planned burial comes ahead of commemorations next month marking the camp's April 22, 1945 liberation by the Red Army.
Advancing Soviet forces found about 3,000 survivors, most of them old and sick. Thousands of other prisoners died during the death marches that preceded Sachsenhausen's liberation as the SS evacuated most of the camp.
Memorial officials expect many survivors to come to the April 17 anniversary commemoration, which German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer also will attend.
Over recent years, a new visitor center has been opened at the camp, and the site entrance has been moved so that visitors pass through the same gate used by the prisoners. The revamped memorial is to be officially inaugurated at the anniversary ceremony.

So lets find out just how many "people" are in these ashes without asking if they are even human ashes.

volume 205 cubic inches
205 x 2250 = 270 cubic feet = 9 cubic yards = 7.4 cubic meters
assuming only 1 meter deep = 2.7 meters square or 10 feet square OR roughly the size of three normal graves. Using the stated 1.5 meters we have the area of about one and a half normal graves but only to a depth of about five feet. So we can calculate these are the remains of less than 2500 people of which nothing else is known.
